Charles Richard Drew was born on June 3,1904, in Washington, D.C. Charles Richard Drew was an African American surgeon who developed a way to store blood plasma for transfusion and coordinated the first substantial blood in the United States. He conducted the blood plasma programs of the United States and Great Britain during World War 2. Charles resigned, knowing that the blood of the African Americans would be separated. He died on April 1,1950.

The figurative artist I chose to research is John Singer Sargent. He is an American artist with an impressionistic style who utilized unique compositions that captured the emotions and personalities of his sitters. Sargent was born in Florence, Italy in 1856 and was encouraged to pursue an interest in drawing and painting by his mother, who was an artist herself. He trained in Paris under the artist Carolus Duran, who taught him not to rely on drawing the composition before painting, but rather to start the straight away. As he Began his training at École des Beaux-Arts school, he gained the attention of many artists, and since then he created a significant impact in the world of art.
He helped bring tattooing into a new light and revive and renew an ancient art form while simultaneously modernizing the style. There is no greater compliment to an artist's legacy than being known for innovating and establishing a style of art. Monet transformed the brush stroke that blends and smoothes colors by blotching the paint on the canvass instead, creating the Impressionist style of painting. Annie Leibovitz is a famous American photographer who is famous for her portrait photography and is considered to be one of the best portrait photographers today in the United States. She had won many awards for her photography style. Some awards she won in her career included the Clio Award in 1987 for her celebrity portrait photographs for an advertising campaign for American Express charge cards. Another award she won was from The Royal Photographic Society, who awarded her with the Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship in 2009 for her contribution to the art of photography. She was born in October 2, 1949 and is currently alive today.

Gustav Klimt is an Austrian painter known for his symbolist and Jugendstil art style. He was born July 14th, 1862 as the eldest son of a poor family, in which he had closer relationships with his mother and sisters. A majority of Klimt’s works consist of female figures either nude or fashionably clothed with many decorative elements as well as yonic symbols surrounding them to illustrate fertility and femininity. Klimt’s art style included influences of Japanese art, classical art, Egyptian art, and Italian Renaissance art. His interest in these styles as well as primitivism may allude to his fascination with painting and drawing females, more commonly the female nude, especially in account to the references of goddesses and fertility statuettes.
