Since The Book Thief is a historical fiction text, the fictitious characters interact in a realistic WWII setting in Germany. Three characters in the book Liesel, rudy, and Hans develop their identities within the parameters of the Nazi-controlled society. However, if Liesel, rudy, and Hans were characters in today's society, their lives would be different. Liesel is a small, blond girl with blue eyes that is nice and caring for the people she loves and the ones around her. Rudy Steiner is a small, skinny boy with yellow hair, he is funny and competitive, especially when it comes to racing and making fun of other people. Rudy was known for painting himself black and running the track at Hubert Oval(a crowded motorized around every square inch of Hubert Oval circumference they were cheering Rudy steiner's name and his name was jesse Owens p.25). Rudy was affected by WW2 in the way that they wanted to take him because of his grates athletic abilities but when they went to get him at his home he didn't come outside and they took his dad. Hans was affected in the way that he didn't have as many customers anymore because the majority of his customers were Jews and if you worked or help them you were considered a jew lover. They were all affected in a negative way that they probably didn't like or agree with at first.
