Although not publicized by the media, the “African World War III” was a direct causation to the bloodiest genocide and war since World War II. The former country Zaire, now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo, is home to one of the most brutal genocides in recorded history. It is also home to the Hutus and Tutsi, one of the most barbaric rivalries in all of Africa, and maybe even the world. The Tutsi wanted retribution for the Rwandan genocide, when 800,000 Tutsis and Hutu moderates were slaughtered by the youth militia Interahamwe, ten weeks prior. As time passed, the Rwandan Patriotic Front, a Tutsi-led militia, took Rwanda back from the Hutus. Most Hutus fled to refugee camps in Zaire in fear of being persecuted. This means the killing of moderates and such. The killing of moderates was both present during the Holocaust and the Rwandan genocide. The Tutsis suffered dearly and this was a genocide of retribution for what happened during the Rwandan genocide. Most of the Tutsi moderates and intellectuals were killed in the Rwandan genocide. The Hutus are the enemy in the Tutsi eye. Since most of the Hutus were in refugee camps, there was no mass killing of moderates because there was no need since there was no chance of rebellion.
No genocide can be done without proper preparation. Most genocide preparations involve the handing out identification cards, such as what the Hutus did to the Tutsis during the Rwandan genocide. There was no need for identification cards because the Tutsi can easily tell the difference between a fellow Tutsi and a Hutu (Adelman). Another part of preparation is concentration of the group of people in a controlled environment. There was also no need for that because most of the Hutus were in refugee camps in Zaire, so the job is already done for
