Combat Out-Post (COP) Keating, Afghanistan; Operation Enduring Freedom IX (OEF), was a challenging deployment that tested our knowledge of Reconnaissance Operations. The three Scout Platoons in the Troop rotated duty assignments; COP Defense, dismounted patrolling, and manning Observation Post (OP) Fritsche. The Troop’s rotation consisted of the platoons conducting one four month rotation at the OP, and executing missions from the COP. The rotation inside the COP was broken down evenly between the remaining two scout platoons; one month of executing patrols and one month of COP defense.
Crime is something that, no matter what we do, we will always have. Crime is not steady and completely predictable and some years have higher crime rates than others. The United States is an advanced and accepting country, but we still face the same battle against crime as all other countries. In the 1900s, leading crime experts predicted a splurge in crime rates. As I mentioned earlier crime is hard to predict and the experts were shocked when a drastic decrease in crime rates occurred rather than a splurge (Levitt, 2004).
Problem solving is used to reduce offending in a community. It believes that crimes are caused by existing social conditions. It involves both law enforcement and the community in ways to reduce or prevent crime (i.e., neighborhood watch). The community is a very important aspect of this operational strategy. Departments need to do more to develop solutions with a partnership of the community.
1. Resources: In the classroom I am observing, there are a few signs around the room, that relate to the standards. Mrs. Dooley, at Alma Middle School, has two large posters side by side, that have the Common Core Standards listed. Under each standard, there are at least eight to ten bullet points of examples of that standard.
After field training I was assigned to the night shift, and received the keys to my first patrol car. I truly thought I was my own man, no longer attached to a FTO and now able to make my own decisions. My confidence level was extremely high, matched only by my ambition to fight crime. A new career had been launched.
In the horror movie Oculus, directed by Mike Flanagan, a typical family moves into a home and terrible things start happening after the arrival of an antique mirror. The mirror turns the mother and father against the children and then each other by preying on their inner demons. Both become more and more psychotic until they attempt to kill the children. In a moment of lucidity, the father, Alan murders his wife, Marie, and then himself. As reunited adults more than ten years later, brother and sister Kaylie and Tim are fighting the mirror once again.
One of the solutions that can deal with the issue of crime is increased funding for behavioral intervention programs that target youths at risk of engaging in violence because of the environment in which they
In April 1998, I was hired by the Clarksville Police Department. From 1998 to 2002, I served in the capacity as a patrol officer. As a patrol officer, I learned quickly the duties associated with patrol related functions were always different; nevertheless, I felt as the job I was doing was fulfilling. In 2000, I became a member of the Clarksville Police Department, Tactical Unit. I served with the Tactical Unit in the capacity as an entry team member, squad leader, assistant team commander, and team commander over the next fourteen years.
Early policing models focused on reacting to crimes. Police agencies spent a large amount of their resources and manpower reacting to crimes and making arrests. Problem-solving policing involves entering the community and working with residents to identify problems and the actual causes of crime in the community. The acronym SARA stands for scanning, analysis, response, and assessment This model was first used in 1987 by the Newport News Virginia Police Department (Roufa, 2017).
The basis of SARA is to provide a structure, or frame work to assist in identifying areas of focus, or common themes or trends of certain types of crime in the community, and to look for ways to find the root cause, or underlying issue to prevent the crime from occurring in the first instance. The end result of the scenario given, is occasional fighting and a perception from the community that crime has increased in the area. Without SARA and the prevention first methodology, Police would purely respond to the reports of fighting and disorder and do what is necessary to put the situation right at that point in time. The SARA model delves deeper than this, it looks to understand why the crime is occurring in the first place.
The criminal justice system exists to protect society while also punishing or rehabilitating offenders of the law. Progression in rehabilitating criminals and prevention of criminal activity has given rise to the study of criminal behavior. Where the focus is predicting who will commit violent or criminal acts and intervening to prevent repetitive or initial action. A great deal of knowledge of criminal behavior derives from the apprehension and study of criminal offenders. Though even some understanding can be gathered from offenders that to this day elude law enforcement, such as the case of Jack the Ripper.
Policing is the process of maintaining public order and enforcing the law. This involves the control of individuals and groups who are deemed to be a threat to the social order. The relationship between military history and policing is complex and symbiotic. Military history provides a historical perspective on policing that can be used to improve policing practices. Conversely, policing can influence the development of military history by providing a better understanding of military
As such, I would introduce programs such as Citizens on Patrol. As I believe it can help to project security presence and disseminate crime prevention advice to fellow residents. In turn, this help to reduce crime rates. However, some residents might regard that these programs as a waste of resources and decide not to support my initiative. Instead, they think that these resources should be used in other areas.
The Planned Change Model is a seven step process which involves: engagement, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, termination and follow up. (Campus, 2014-2015) In the scenario provided, as social workers the first step would involve engaging the community. As a community dealing with the issue of crime, it would be important to include all stakeholders from the community, victims as well as non-affected individuals.’ Secondly, we would walk through, speaking randomly to engage community members so as to get information on what is happening on the grounds of the community.
Every day on the news there are all kinds of reports. Crime reports are a major part of today's events. Almost every day there are posts about crimes. The level of crime has risen immensely in every corner of the world. People have tried to understand the causes of crime, but if we look around the world we can see that many of the crimes are caused by people who abuse drugs and alcohol, people who think negatively towards others, and poverty.
