Ever since I can remember, I have had an interest in science. As a young child, I read anatomy books to learn about human physiology in my pastime. As I grew older, I watched instructional videos of procedures that physicians perform on patients that I used as an educational tool. The books and videos fascinated and motivated me to pursue a career in medicine. The thought of me becoming a doctor and attending to the needs of others is gratifying. My ability to investigate the source of an illness, empathize with patients, think critically and employ a treatment plan for a person 's ailments, intrigues me. The ever-present nature of health problems in my family made me realize that as a doctor I could treat the sufferers of pain and disease, and heal them so that they become stronger and healthier individuals.
One of the largest factors which influenced me to pursue a career in STEAM arose from my passion for volunteering. At sixteen, with an early interest in the medical field, I joined the Valhalla Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Eager to expand my knowledge on how to effectively provide healthcare, I enrolled in a Certified Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course at a local college.
