The Sacrifice According to Psychology Today, the idea that of “ willingly sacrificing our own interests for sake of our family”( self sacrifice) particularly for americans is a hard concept to process. In the novel Metamorphosis, the story is shown through the eyes of a man named Gregor;who selfishly sacrifices his adulthood to help his family with their crippling debt. Gregor sacrifices his adulthood works as a traveling salesman. Until one morning, Gregor woke up as a bug. Gregor was the families main provider. After the transformation, Gregor was on the ground pleading for help, but “no plea of gregor's helped” his father “merely stamped his feet on the ground forcefully”. While Gregor was “ bleeding profusely”, his father gave him a “hard shove”. During the time, when gregor was a bug; he was isolated to his room. Even as a bug, this still affected his mental health. Ironically, one of the main things that affected Gregor, was not “constantly seeing new faces” even though he never got to form lasting relationships with them. An now, at home he can’t form a relationship with anybody. Gregor also experiences a lot of weight loss during this time. As a bug, the things he loved as a human; he hates as a bug. Even so, Gregor “hardly ate anymore” he would take “a bit in his mouth, hold it in their for hours,and generally spit it out. An with this isolation, he died; “then without his consent, his head sank down to the floor. An from this, he streamed his last breath”.(51).
