Is the experience of being an outsider universal? An outsider or an outcast is a person who does not belong to a particular group. Everyone goes through a stage in their life where they think that they are an outsider in their own world. This experience is universal which means of, affecting, or done by all people or things in the world or in a particular group; applicable to all cases. Many stories include characters that feeling like outcasts. In the stories, “The Matemorphosis”, “By Any other Name”, and “The Revenge of the Geeks” characters in each story face the experience of being an outsider. He lay on his armor-hard back and saw, as he lifted his head up a little, his brown, arched abdomen divided into rigid bow-like sections. From his height the balck, just about ready to slide off completely, could hardly stay in place. His numerous legs, pitifully thin in comparison to the rest of his circumference, flickered helplessly before his eyes.” Before Gregor became a bug he was honored, aprreciated, and seen as a hero from his family because he was apart of the military. After the military Gregor became a traveling businessman where he made a lot of money, but his family was in debt so they took most of it. After Gregor’s transformation, his family started to treat him like an outsider by making his room a storage closet and by not letting him eat dinner with them. Gregor would have to watch his family laugh, be happy, and enjoy dinner while he watched them eating through a crack in the door of his room with his own plate of food. The feeling of being an outsider came to Gregor’s mind so his way to cope with it was to start eating and sleeping less. The result of these actions was Gregor’s death at the end of the story.
