In Rick Riordan's novels he writes about ancient mythology. He has used this to spread the old tales in this modern world. In the novel The Serpent’s Shadow, the main character, Sadie, is a dynamic character as the novel clearly depict her changes in her interactions. Sadie is one of the protagonist in the novel, the other being her brother Carter. Her adventures take her from Texas and New York to Egypt and even Duat (the magical realm in ancient Egyptian mythology). Her interactions with the other characters changes as the novel progresses. Firstly she changes herself and we can see how she has grown in the book. She has a close and unique relationship with her brother, Carter. Sadie may not love Isis, sometimes she hates her and wishes that she was never inhabited by her. Sadie does love Walt Stone. He is another magician who has come to her aid in many times. As she has a crush on Walt she cares about what he does and wants the best for him. At times that want is very conflicting for what is good and what the greater good is.
The last major relationship Sadie has is with her other love, Anubis the god. He is the god of funerals and death. Sadie is conflicted with this love, the love for a god, and the love for Walt. This is something that is experienced throughout the book and ends with some very well throughout twist on Rick Riordan’s part of writing the story.
