Safe Place Salty air, the warm sand between my toes caresses me in warmth from the bitter cold ocean water. This place, helps me forgot about society and everyone around me. The sun’s rays hitting me, remind me of the way other can hurt each other by only saying a word. Drake’s Island Beach, a place where thousands of tourists visit a year, but yet no one seems to judge you. It’s located just over an hour away, in Wells, Maine, a town infested with tours and young folk. Surrounded by campgrounds at every corner of town, trolley’s pass by and as they do you hear clunk clunk, clunk clunk as they drive over the potholes with ease. All the stress from school and life floats away when I go for a quick, chilly swim in the water. As I emerge from the water, the ocean breeze grasps my skin and goosebumps appear. My towel keeps me warm and safe. As I stare of into the water’s distance I wonder what is on the other side; land or water? Random thoughts ponder my mind such as how to be a nicer person or how can I make myself a more positive person. This gives me a new perspective on life and I feel somewhat more of a wiser person. This place gives me pure joy.

No two waves look the same just like people; no two people look the same. The waves wash all kinds of miscellaneous items on the shore. Seaweed, crabs, snails, and the occasional soda bottle. The beach is littered with many unsafe and unhealthy items, just like my brain; cluttered with all kinds of negative, unhappy thoughts. As the waves hit the rocks any dirt that was there has been washed off, and now the rock looks as good as new. When the waves hit me, they wash away every negative thought and aspect of myself and I get a new, clean slate. I feel refreshed, wiser, and
