Sal did not want to talk to her or about her, she tried to avoid her at all costes. But when she retuned to her hometown after the passing of Gram she felt happy again a empty place in her heart was
Another example is car accidents because her mom died when the bus crashed. This proves that Sal didn 't think she was brave because of these fears she developed when her mom passed.
After all the positive and some negative stuff that happen in her family, Phoebe struggles with thinking positively about all the things that has happened to her family. First when Phoebe’s mother leaves unexpectedly one morning, causing internal and external conflicts for Phoebe and her family. In fact, Phoebe makes unrealistic ways why her mother left, then not accepting her mother left because she was not happy with who she was. The quote that proves my statement is on page 129, and it states “Phoebe prowled through the house,
Another external force that made Sal change is phoebe's mom going away. The last way that Sal learned to accept things is that phoebe met her “long lost” brother. One external force sal learned to accept things that she doesn’t want to is when her mom died on a bus from Bybanks, Kentucky to Lewiston, Idaho.
Sal didn’t want to move and leave all the memories of her mother. This changed Sal because the house that Sal, her mother, and her father have lived there forever and had a family there. It is important to her because it was the last times before her mother left her. Another internal conflict that forced Sal to change is, Mrs.Cadaver was the last one to see Sal’s mother in her last moments on the bus.
When Creech states “I had to go away. I can’t explain.” The author shows that when Phoebe’s mom leaves the emotion of the character affects subplot and the plot and also causes Sal to make connections with her mom through emotion. When the author states “I suppose your mother made a great sacrifice when she took off” (154). Creech says when Phoebe annoys Sal it affects the emotion of both characters which is seen in the novel in the beginning, middle, and end for subplot and plot.
Phoebe’s mom came back, she she had changed and brought someone with her. This made Sal jealous in a non-foolish way, but it would still haunt her. Another thing to consider is that Sal was in Phoebe’s story and played a big part in it. Sal was Phoebe’s best
“ My father said, “ I didn’t say anything about yours, but I know what your thinking” ( 85 ). She is offended by her father, saying that her hair is nothing like her mothers, but Sal externally always wanted to be just like her mother. “ Mrs. Winterbottom half heartedly chipped away at the burnt brownies and asked Prudence, if she would have another chance at cheerleading tryouts,” ( 97 ). This incident led up to Mrs. Winterbottom's disappearance, which then made Sal realize how much she respected her mother and her leaving, and wishes that she had treated her mother with more respect and that she needs to treat her father with more respect, so he doesn’t get any ideas of following Sal's mom's footsteps. “ I am not brave, I am not good and I wish someone would call me by my real name, “ ( 103 ).
Sal responds similarly to Phoebe upon the sudden absence of their mother because they can’t fathom a logical reasoning for their mothers’ choice. One can’t explain all of the awful things in life, like cancer, death, war and murder, but this opportunity let Sal understand her mother’s perspective and come to terms with it logically rather than with crazy stories and false
Chanhassen then wanted to travel to find herself. When Sal 's mother got to Idaho, she died in the tragic bus accident, Sal started to blame herself "I didn 't want to blame her. She was my mother, and she was part of me." (Creech, page 109) . Sal then was being told by her grandparents that it was not her fault "Sometimes you know in your heart you love someone, but you have to go away before your head can figure it out" (Creech, page 146).
After finding out that Danielle’s mom is moving to Toronto with her boyfriend, Danielle explains to Shelley, William, and Ralph how she would like to stay with Shelley and Ralph because her mom’s boyfriend scares her. This is when Shelley says to Danielle, “Your mom said no [To staying with Shelley and Ralph]. We tried everything… Mom tried with the Children’s Aid Society, the band office, everything. Nobody would help.”
Someone once said, “ Life is a war, with blood shed and hate, but in that hate, love and warmth grows in the corner to show you, you are not alone.” This relates to Sal and Phoebe greatly, because of their similarities in their life, and their moms leaving, and them thinking the same way. In the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, the struggles Phoebe faces in subplot are similar to the struggles that Sal faces in the plot. One of the significant struggles in both Sal and Phoebe’s lives is that both moms are sad and their daughters don’t notice. Both Prudence and Sal don’t realize that their moms are sad, and carry on with their day, like nothing's bothering them.
She now wanted a sibling and for the family to be bigger. Sal’s dad said, “He said to me, ‘It wasn’t
I believe that there most important event in European History from the years between 1900-1940 would have to be World War 1. World War 1 was known by other names such as ‘The War to End All Wars’, ‘The War of the Nations’, ‘WWI’, and ‘The Great War’. World War 1 changed the way countries negotiated with each other and paved the road for the World War 2. It implemented new ways for wars to be fought, by testing out the machine gun, air combat, and chemical warfare for the first time in any war. It all started on June, 18 1914 with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
In the United States, children in public school are required to take a basic health class. It is in this class that children learn the negative long-term effects of smoking cigarettes. If a child comes home smelling like cigarettes all parents can guarantee that the topic will not be taken lightly. I can easily recall an earlier time in my life when I was against cigarettes but today such a position would sound hypocritical coming from me. Now more than ever, cigarette smokers are being scrutinized for ignorance but smoking remains seen at Georgia State as well as many other college campuses.
