The lives of the un-expected people of Salem, Massachusetts soon turned into a living nightmare. The hunt for people practicing the devil's work began. The Salem witch trials first started in February of 1692, this unfortunate event led to many deaths, Nearly 150 women, children, and men were punished for behaving in an unnatural way and 19 people were executed. The Salem Witch Trials were a very dangerous time for people, if someone was accused of being a witch they could be burned alive, drowned, pressed between heavy boulders, stabbed, shot, and hanged. Historians believe that the women who were being targeted had all been on the same page, somehow they were connected mentally and spiritually. The youngest to be taken into custody was a four-year-old girl named Dorothy Good. The jails were so full of other women they did not have any handcuffs for Dorothy, the town people were so afraid of the “witches” they created small cuffs for Dorothy so she could not harm anyone else. Brown says. “Why are young girls and young women feeling that they’re possessed by the devil and are cursed and tormented by older women and men in the community?”(Possessed: The Salem witch trials) Women were being targeted and had no way to prove they were innocent. The puritans were very afraid of anything paranormal, and they always wanted to put an end to it as soon as possible. During this time doctors would diagnose people with the curse of witchcraft, this struck fear into the people of Salem, they were afraid the witches could harm them. Although the puritans were afraid of witchcraft, they still believed that there was good and
