One great notion I have developed over the years is that every human has gone through some meaning experiences in his/her life that he/ she can identify with when such experience is depicted through an artwork, painting, photography, or any form of media. After coming in contact with Dorothea Lange’s Migrant Mother, 1936, artwork (fig 4.151), I feel more connected to this artwork because it speaks directly to me and draws my attention to my personal life experience. During the 17th, 18th and 19 centuries, many of the western arts, in Europe and America were inspired by the invasion of Japanese blueprint and ukiyo-e print (floating world), which exploded the world of the Arts. It produces paints and prints illustrating of the everyday activities, the significances of the culture, local natives, landscape, female beauties and others. One of the American artists that was drastically mesmerized by the Japanese art is Helen Hyde. Helen Hyde is an American female artist etcher, printmaking and engraver for many years.
In regards to the never ending Sherrie Levine debate the act of re-photographing the famous images shifted the author, the viewer, and the subject. By inserting herself as the author Levine more than merely reproduces the already reproduced photograph, she complicates the original intent of the image and exposes the power structures inherent in image production. Levine attempt to rewrite history and the narrative behind it. Her approach forces the viewer to question how one creates meaning out of history. American first professional woman artist, Henrietta Johnston and John singleton Copley are all helped create a distinct culture in the young colonies and both were not formally trained, but I find they have many differences. First，John singleton Copley is very good to render the distinct textures of hair, flesh, textiles, and other materials and to create the illusion of people and objects in space with dramatic contrasts of light and dark, the work “the boy with squirrel (henry Pelham)” is a good example. His works shows the fancy by borrowing settings, compositions, and costumes from 17th and 18th century English painting style. When the film started I got a brief look at some of the paintings before the documentary actually went into Marla story. My first thoughts was someone is just trying to make money off this kid and she being forced to do these silly paintings. So I supposed I went into this movie with a somewhat negative view but after actually watching Marla work on a few paintings that view change. This made me come to the conclusion that, although all forms of art gives us a peek into the personality of the artist, Modern art seems to do it best. Modern art is usually nothing but raw emotion or powerful ideas driving the art.

Valued at over $3.5 million dollars, Richard Prince’s Spiritual America, a rephotograph of fashion photographer Gary Gross’s 1975 original image is as infamous as it is provocative. Originally displayed in 1988, the piece continues to stir up controversy. In 2009 it was banned from the Tate Modern on the grounds that the image was “clearly child pornography” (cite). These charges are not entirely false; the original picture was part of a photo spread published in the softcore porn magazine Sugar n’ Spice. But repurposing existing objects in the real world into art is Richard Prince’s shtick.

Her work has been called important and influential to most that view it. What makes Sherman so unique is that she has been using herself as her own model in her pictures for well over 30 years. Sherman’s photographs are known for their provocative taste and for pushing the boundaries.
Album Covers The visual media form that I have chosen to use as my case study for this assignment is album covers/artwork. I chose this specific media form as I believe it has had a fascinating evolution throughout the years. Album covers have changed in numerous ways since they were first invented in 1910, they have gone from physical to digital in a relatively short period of time and both technology and society have played an influential role in the development of album covers. These factors continue to heavily impact the direction in which the evolution of album covers is headed.
The existence of Andy Warhol has eternally made an influence on the world of pop art. He was a boy who was born of rags and came out a man of riches by using his imagination. At a young age, art became Warhol’s true escape from reality when he relied on it the most. Once his pieces of work touched publicity, Warhol shortly realized how his art was not only his therapy but other aspiring artists’ as well. Warhol taught numerous people how art exists even in the smallest areas that comprise pop culture.
