The first looks at the city proper and the second looks at the county or greater Salt Lake Area. Approximately 1,564,000 people live in Salt Lake County. However, the total population including cities such as Ogden, Salt Lake City, and Provo is around 2 million people. Salt Lake city proper has a population of 191,180 people at the last U.S. census. As far as different races of people are concerned Salt Lake City has two different tales. One side they are predominately white with the Ango-Saxon race at 82%. On the other side Sale Lake city has become very immigrant friendly which is increasing its diversity. Starting in the 1990’s Salt Lake City started accepting large numbers of refugees. In 1992 Utah accepted 15,000 refugees from Africa and the vast majority were settled in the Salt Lake City area. Salt Lake City also became home to a large number of refugees fleeing the war in Bosnia in the 1990s. Salt Lake City developed a state run refugee office that works to resettle refugees to the area, provide training, job opportunities, and assist with integration into …show more content…
