I nominate Dr. Nick Lynchard because he’s a very influential teacher and cares deeply about his students. When I tool Psy 101 with Dr. Lynchard he spoke about more than just his subject matter and focused on teaching us things about academia that nobody else does at this level. I’ve never been concerned about how my outward appearance or the way I carried myself would matter in meeting people or getting accepted into better colleges. He taught me about how to get in to graduate school and the politics behind that and what I could expect. He put great stress on the factors of cinching down and doing well in classes that I had little or no interest in and to fully submerge myself in the life on the fields I am interested well before I’m actually
The Two Princes of Calabar, written by Randy L. Sparks, is a book about two African American brothers who were kidnapped and sold in to slavery and written in much more detail than a regular history book. This is largely due to the fact that two brothers who were captured as slaves, named Ephraim and Ancona Robin John, documented a story that showed what is was really like to be a slave and to be handled as property during the eighteenth century. This book is written in the first person which gives it an extra edge in not only sharing information with the reader, but realistically portraying the emotions of the two slaves. The book goes into detail on how Africans used to capture other Africans and sell them for profit by detailing the journey of these two brothers.
Anne Orthwood’s Bastard: Sex and Law in Early Virginia by John Ruston Pagan highlights the paradoxical nature of life in the colonial times and how it aided the creation of American law. The four cases that resulted from the fornication between Anne Orthwood and John Kendall gave present historians a vivid image of how English settlers modified English traditions and began to create customs of their own. Furthermore, it was able to reveal some of the cultural, economical and political values in the colony of Virginia such as tobacco and unfree labor. They helped reveal the reasons why legal systems were created in the first place by documenting the prolongation of social order as well as the preservation of self interest. Anne Orthwood’s Bastard

In Cherie Dimaline’s The Marrow Thieves, Wab is a complex character who goes through many impactful experiences, such as the events from her coming-to story and her spending more time with Chi-Boy. These experiences cause this character to develop throughout the novel, from being reserved to opening up and becoming more loving. Early in the novel, Wab is reserved. Readers can see this in the chapter “A Plague of Madness,” where she was on edge after going hunting.

We often encourage people to actively pursue their happiness while also wanting to discourage them to escape from reality. However, avoiding your issues is also a way of pursuing happiness, even though this route will prove to be temporary. In the literary piece, “Horses of the Night” by Margaret Laurence, the author describes the story of a boy named Chris, who, due to his financial conditions, is forced to move from his home in Shallow Creek to dwell in Manawaka, in order to attend high school. Chris’ character is used to demonstrate the idea that individuals may escape from the miserable aspects of their lives in order to stay happy. Through the course of this work, you witness the changes Chris undergoes, through the eyes of his six-year-old cousin Vanessa, which ultimately lead to his downfall.
Main characters of films and short stories are evolving tremendously, from their actions to their character traits. In the thriller short story “All the Kings Horses” by Kurt Vonnegut, the main character portrays himself as an excellent and intelligent individual. They don’t need Sam to keep everything together. The book quotes “ Father was planning his usual trip to Verplanks Point and this year for the first time I was going with him.” This quote shows that they can still do all of the things they do and can have Tim step up and prove that he can be responsible and mature too. The book also says “ Business was good in the store too.” This shows that everything ran the same and they were able to keep everything going even with Sam gone.
In The Odyssey by Homer food and temptation go hand in hand when affecting the plot of the story. Temptation is a desire to to do something not particularly smart. Temptation is important in The Odyssey because it is temptation that leads to his men’s downfall. According to Nicole Smith, the most powerful temptation comes in the form of meat, wine, and bread. Smith states The Lotus Eaters represent temptation.
The Power of Identity Despite varying circumstances, both visually and contextually, the theme portraying that extreme measures are often taken when others are not accepting of an identity is developed by actions in American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang. In the beginning of the book, The Monkey King is more or less serene and collected. At first the book shows some scenes on pages 10 and 11, where he is training peaceful, simple disciplines, and as stated on page 10, “The monkey king ruled with a firm but gentle hand.”
In the book Blood on The River by Elisa Carbone, Captain Smith is a very strong and honest leader, who will stop at nothing to protect the men living in James Town. Captain Smith is very honest while explaining to Samual Collier that in order to get through the rough times Samual needs to stick together with the men by teaching him a lesson. “Captain Smith stands over me. “Does it work, Samuel” he demands. “Can you stand on one foot when a storm rocks you?”(Carbone 55).
In order for a person to fit the descriptions of a hero, they must obtain courage, selflessness, and humility. Luis Velasco, Alexander Selkirk, and Chuck Noland obtain courage and humility, but lack selflessness. Their traits make them well intentioned people, but they do not fit all the criterion required of a hero, therefore are not considered heroes. A crucial trait a hero must obtain is courage, the ability to overcome a frightening task.
Forgiveness is the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven. (Hawkins, 1994, P. 206) My personal understanding of the parable ‘The Prodigal Son” is that it portrays the importance of reasoning and forgiveness. The main characters in the parable are two sons and a betrayed father. The father remains constant throughout the parable, although he has being betrayed by his younger son.
