Samhain is a Pagan Sabbat that falls on October 31st every year. This is the final harvest festival. Many Pagans consider this day to me the beginning of the new year. On Samhain, the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead is thin. This makes it easier to communicate with the deceased. The following are some craft ideas that Pagans can make to honor this Sabbat.
Mini pumpkin lights
This is an easy Samhain craft to make. All you need is mini pumpkins, a carving tool, a spoon and some tea light candles. Remove the top of each pumpkin and remove their insides. This can be done by decorating an outside tree with Halloween decorations. A fake or real tree can be brought inside, like on Yule, and decorated as well. Another idea is to place a fallen tree branch into a flower pot filled with dirt and pebbles. Make sure the branch has plenty of smaller branches protruding from it for easy decorating.
Halloween decorations can be used to spice up the Samhain tree. The decoration focus should be on Samhain colors and symbols. Colors associated with Samhain include; black, brown, gold, orange, purple, and red. Acorns, apples, autumn flowers, bats, black cats, bones, cauldrons, corn stalks, crows, divination tools, gourds, ghosts, Indian corn, Jack o Lanterns, nuts, pumpkins, scarecrows, skeletons, scythes, and the waning moon are all symbols of Samhain.
Scrap fabric wreath
On Samhain, every home should have a wreath hanging from the front door. A simple Samhain wreath can be made by using scrap pieces of Halloween fabric, a Styrofoam wreath, scissors and a wreath holder. All you have to do is cut the fabric into 1-2 inch strips that are long enough to tie around the Styrofoam and leave a small tail on the outside of the wreath.
