The Navajo Indians today are the largest Indian nation in the United States. They have the largest reservation in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. The Navajos name for themselves is Dine, which means "The People . The Navajo culture depended largely on their surroundings and where they lived. The Navajo's used to live in far Northern America, today's Alaska and Canada.
The Navajos have a strong family support system that is essential in improving their health status. It is encouraging to see other family members caring for the sick because we lack that aspect in today’s society. Family involvement within the Navajo culture might be something that we need to intergrade in our society. The Navajos extended family focuses on helping one another grow, collaborate on resources and contribute in daily life occurrences (Giger & Davidhizar, 2013).
Patients deserve to be treated with dignity and respect as they entrust medical providers to relief their pain and suffering. The legacy of medical care in Native American communities brings prejudices and personal biases. To explain, many Native Americans lack appropriate access to pain relief due to government
As a Latina been raised in the USA, I considered Latinos been a multi culture ethnic group. We do share some customs but no all, one of the distinctive are the fact that even though we speak the same language , our accent, pronunciation and some words can be same, but have different meanings, for example Dominican, Cuban and Puerto Rican. We all come from the Caribbean but our music, food, customs and some religious beliefs are totally different. Every country has their unique flavor; they own flags, celebrations, etc. therefore that allow some discrimination because everybody thinks their own kind is better than the others Latinos.

The Navajos, a North American tribe, is a world culture that is most commonly known for their beliefs and their contribution to modern myths and the arts. The Navajos, also known as the Dine, were mainly located in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. This area was known as the Four Corners and it had fertile land, long growing seasons, and a warm climate with no extreme winters. The Navajo’s location proved that they were at a geographic location that supported the agricultural way of living. Not only did they solemnly depend on the crops as their main food source, but they were hunter gatherers as well.
How is the Navajo Nation’s culture different from the United States culture? There are many ways the two cultures are different. The two cultures have different things that they follow and are accustomed to. Three specific ways the cultures are different are their religion, economics, and language. Our culture is our beliefs, traditions, and values that bring families together, but for some people culture is more of a nuisance than a custom. In the realistic fiction story “Navajo Lessons”,Celine and her brother Josh go to a Navajo reservation to visit their grandma for the summer. Instead of learning the Navajo language or exploring the reservation like her brother,Celine would much rather spend her time hanging out at the teen center or training for track with her friend Dora. When her grandma falls ill,Celine soon learns that your culture is more important than a few hours with her friends. The story “Navajo Lessons” shows us how special our culture really is.
The Navajo people have a had a long, tumultuous, history with the United States. For the longest time however, the Navajos’ relationship with the United States was not what defined the Navajo people. The Navajo lead a relatively peaceful life until they made contact with neighboring tribes, and the sudden appearance of strange foreigners near their lands. Before contact was made with outside peoples, the Navajo mostly functioned as a hunter-gatherer society. This nomadic lifestyle was the commonplace until the Navajo met the Pueblo people.
In a healthcare setting you will see different cultures that will come and go. It is very important to know how to deal with each culture so that you can help them while still making sure they are comfortable. Native Americans have many different characteristics because of the different tribes from all over the world. Healthcare providers should be familiar with them so they know how to distinguish them if needed. Cultural competency: Indians Culture competency is defined as one has the knowledge, the abilities and the skill to deliver care congruent with the patient’s cultural beliefs and practices (Purnell, 2013). As a nurse or a health care provider, increasing ones consciousness of culture diversity improves the possibilities for health care practitioners to provide competent care (Purnell, 2013). Hi Peeps, Today 's Quote “We tend to use fancy words and phrases to describe our insubordinate, deviant, wicked, behaviors, habits, and ideas to sell and use so that we can con others into thinking that breaking the rules is okay.” ~ Jon Barnes Recalcitrance In general, when your life is not going well, you need to get rid of something that is evil in your lifestyle and you must get rid of that behavior too. Your lack of cooperation with God and His standards are obvious, as you continue to rebel and break God’s laws.
Something called “Medicine Men and Women” are spiritual leaders who use herbs to heal sick people. It’s very important to have spiritual leaders because they are the one’s to provide for the sickness of people, they play a huge role in people's lives so that’s why they're so important to the Native Americans religion.
