My reading partner’s name and age are Sandra Itzel Hurtado and she is eight years old; she is my girlfriend’s little sister. Sandra and I found our reading content easily, I had a lot of books my little cousins had. She ended picking a somewhat of a mystery book written by Linda Joy Singleton, titled The Curious Cat Spy Club. The cover looked cool so we started reading and she became very attracted to the story. Unfortunately, towards our second session she began to get distracted during our reading. So I decided to take her to a Barnes & Nobble to look at some books, and we choose to read Tales from a Not-So-Fabulous Life (Dork Diaries Series #1), written by Rachel Renee Russell. She was very shy towards me most of the time we were together, but as we started reading together I found out she is very adventurous and curious of the world that surrounds her. She began to open up to me, something I looked forward to for a while. I ended up buying her the second series to the book we read and from what she tells me when I’m over she is still reading it and enjoys it.
I learned a lot about myself during this project. I learned that I love reading also that I’m not too bad of a reader. I used to be terrified of reading out loud in front of people afraid of being judged on my reading skills and reading fluency. However, now I have more confidence of reading out loud and being able to become interested in a book rather than being on social media. Not only becoming interested in a book but actually finishing a book that should be on my reading level.
The best thing I experienced throughout this project was probably building a positive relationship with my reading partner, and actually motivating a child to read more and discovering new information and expanding their imagination. Also becoming more interested into reading out loud myself and working on my confidence towards
