Santiago is an expert fisherman, as he has been fishing since he was a little boy. Although you may think he hauls in thousands of pounds of fish each day, he has gone with no luck for 84 days straight! Santiago might think that he has become salao, the worst form of unlucky, but he does have a little boy behind him who believes in him as much as he believes that fish exist! I personally think Santiago has not lost his luck, as 85 is a luck number, and also because it wouldn’t make a good or long book if he didn’t catch any fish while he was a fisherman.
