A lot of people are searching for their personal legend and some have already achieved it. Your personal legend is the purpose of your life, or what you are meant to do with your life. Some people fulfill this quest and others never do, either by ignoring it or by not being willing to put in the effort. In the alchemist, a boy named Santiago fulfills his personal legend, by crossing the desert with the help of many people along the way. Have you ever had a passion to do something in life, like win a trophy or build something. That’s a personal legend, a calling or desire to do something, for a cause greater other than for yourself. In the alchemist, Santiago's personal legend is to find treasure at the pyramids. He has a recurring dream, as well as omens, his dream to find the treasure. He starts working for a crystal merchant. The merchant explains to him that it was pointless. That even if he worked for an entire year, he would still not have enough money to make it there. That made Santiago want to abandon his personal legend. He started focusing on making money to move back to Spain and return to being a shepherd. The merchant explained to him his desire to go to Mecca and expanded his shop. He was afraid to because he doesn't want to change. Then, Santiago told the crystal merchant that he was leaving. "I am proud of you," the crystal merchant said. "You brought a new feeling into my crystal shop. But you know that I'm not going to go to Mecca.
