After the Roe v. Wade overturn in 2022, many worry about plans for birth control. Although birth control is still legal, the ability to refuse prescriptions by doctors and pharmacists is allowed in several states (Stock and Blum). It’s a worry for many that legislators will make birth control less available due to the ban of abortion. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) required most health insurance companies to fully cover the cost of birth control at copay; however, this coverage mandate is being pressed by anti-birth control politicians (Parenthood). Churches, associations of churches, religiously affiliated elementary and secondary schools, and religious charities and universities are allowed to refuse birth control due to the federal law. (Guttmacher Institute). However, preventing pregnancy is not the only reason for birth control. Birth control is a method that many women use to regulate periods and prevent pregnancies. I will begin by talking about the history of birth control: when it started, how it all began, and how it developed. I will then talk about how women can find many benefits within birth control. I will talk about how these benefits enhance ways of living and why it’s important that the choice of birth control is accessible if wished upon. I will try to find women’s personal stories about inability to pay for the high cost of birth control. Finally, I will then talk about how not all health insurance fully covers the cost of birth control and proceed my argument that all women should receive full coverage
