Human Trafficking: People for Sale
Imagine a young woman who is uneducated and poor. One day while walking home this young woman comes across a build board advertising a waitressing job in New York with a number on it. Being poor and uneducated she is always looking for work to feed her family. Filled with joy at the opportunity to work in an affluent nation where she can make her own destiny the young woman dials the number. For $3,000 the person on the phone promises her a ticket to New York and a waitressing job when she lands. However when she steps off the plane she is not taken to her waitressing job, she is taken to a brothel, sold to the owner and forced to become a prostitute. For the rest of this young woman’s life she will live in fear, held against her will and forced to commit sexual acts until she is no longer of use to the owner. This young woman has fallen victim to modern slavery, human trafficking.

It is the enforcers job to ensure the ;law is upheld, but due to the horrendous amounts of money generated yearly the law makers and enforcer in India are in no rush to solve the problem. The country of India does not regulate human trafficking nor do they try to enforce The Universal Declaration of Human Rights partly because it would cost India millions of dollars in revenue. India’s government prefers to keep the Dalits uneducated because it allows the government to continue to exploit and profit off the Dalit people. Although Indian lawmakers have passed laws that are in the Dalit’s favor and aim for equality, they are not enforced by India’s government therefore are of no help when trying to solve the issue of human trafficking in
