The Devil’s lettuce as some refer to it, is becoming more and more popular in the U.S. It is becoming a growing trend and it might as well keep growing with all the benefits that are being given to States from it being legalized. It’s not just all benefits, in some instances it can be addictive for the user. Although the laws surrounding marijuana is more harmful to the user than the marijuana itself and it causes innocent people to become criminals and instead of consumers in a growing market that can produce money for problems that we have in this country. Out of 473 adult users surveyed by the Centre for Addictions Research of British Columbia over 86% of them reported that they substituted cannabis for at least one of three things: alcohol, prescription medication, or illegal drugs. With 80.6 of the 86% were abandoning pills for the organic alternative. Weed is both figuratively and literally growing in marketing industry. There were 8.2 million marijuana arrests between 2001 and 2010, 88% of the arrests were for just having weed. In the first 11 months of Colorado having marijuana recreationally legal, there was a 2.2% decrease in crime compared to the first 11 months of 2013. Traffic deaths were also thought to increase after legalization but instead did the opposite. In the same first 11 months of 2014, there was a 3% decrease in fatalities compared to 2013. This kept a 12 year long continuing decline to keep going down.
