Primary Source: In 1 Samuel 8-17 we learn that Samuel makes Joel and Abijah, his sons, judges over Beersheba, but they do not follow his ways. Saul was with a boy trying too look for the lost donkeys ends up meeting Samuel who invites Saul to eat and wants to talk to him. Saul then becomes the King and Saul is told that there will be three signs before he heads to Gilgal. The Lord then regrets making Saul King because he has disobeyed him. Saul is then showed that the ripped robe is a lesson from the Lord because he has tore the kingdoms of Israel from him. Even though Samuel is sad about Saul, he is ordered to find a new king and anoints David king, who later becomes a murderer of the Philistines.
