School leadership can have multiple interpretations and meanings, but to me it's all about leading by example. School leadership is simply put as representing the student body and overall atmosphere at Western High School to its highest potential. Leadership throughout school is showing others the right pathways to choose over the course of what can seem like four gruesome years. School leadership begins with that person who always chooses to do the right thing even when others around them do not. Such as situations when there is a fight, true leaders don't stand on the side cheering the situation on, rather they step in and help end it or consult a person of higher authority to discontinue the wrongdoing. Whether it's how you carry yourself each day down the hallways or the way in which you interact with your peers, leading by example is the most successful route. The best leaders often offer insight to fellow classmates on the most effective ways to go about a problem or project. These problems are not only related to school, but also in everyday life. A supportive person resembles leadership by taking the initiate to understand what struggles students are facing from calculus to abusive relationships and everything in between. A leader is someone willing to be the best individual they can be so that others may follow in their path. Leaders in the school environment make sure their work is done to the best of their ability, they strive for personal improvement not just to get an A. Leaders are capable of working with others, but are also very independent as well. Leaders take part in as much as they can from community gatherings such as volunteering time at a church or nursing home to participating in after school sports or clubs. Leading by example as I have stated before is what I believe benefits the most when actually being a leader. I walk through the halls head held high, making an effort to say hello to all of those whom I know and some I don't. I've personally had trouble with making friends in the past, and I'll admit it use to bother me a lot, but I've really made efforts to treat others as my friends even if I'm not treated the same. I really do frown upon those who use words such as "hate", that is a very strong word and should never be used when describing another person. I'm also glad to say I'm a very sociable and outgoing individual. I get along well with others whether it be in the workplace or just as friends outside of school. I am able to communicate well with adults, which I pride myself on. Leading by example seems to come easy to me as I receive good grades, participate in choir, cross country, swimming, and track. I also find time to volunteer at events such as swim meets as a timer and youth football games as an announcer. I attend Westwinds church and go to youth group on Sunday evenings. I don't find it as bragging to say these things of myself because I'm not a boastful individual. I really believe in setting an example for those out there struggling or those who aren't as fortunate as I am. It brings me much happiness and pride to be able to tutor freshman
