The African American inventor I decided to do a report on is Lloyd Hall. He was not only a black inventor but he also a chemist. Lloyd Hall received his Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University in 1914, a Master of Science from Northwestern in 1916, and a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) from Virginia State College in 1944. He also served as chief chemist for John Morrel and Company of Ottuma, Illinois (1919-1921) and became President of the Chemical Products Corporation, Chicago from 1921 to 1924.
The first world war is known to be one of the harshest wars in history for many reasons. One of those reasons is the unleashing of terrifying new weapons, gas weapons. Dangerous chemicals and gases have been used as weapons since thousands of years ago, though it was until World War 1 where the first large-scale of them was used. Battles normally ended in a draw, which prompted finding new fighting strategies. Four main kinds of gases were used; tear, chlorine, phosgene, and mustard (I, n.d.).
During the interview between Skipp Rutherford and Mack McLarty there were more anecdotes shared then facts I would say. I believe that the stories made the event more colorful and set the tone to be very reminiscent. One story that really stood out to me was when McLarty discussed how he had to approach the president about Vince killing himself. One issue with this interview was that many of the stories shared regarded history from so long ago that I had no idea what they were talking about, especially since they did not use many details. So when McLarty brought up Vince, I immediately got on my phone and had to google who vince was, and what happened.
The Germans wanted to remove the salient so they introduced a new weapon, chlorine gas. Description of the War: The Germans wanted to remove the Canadian soldiers by introducing a new weapon, poison chlorine gas. In this battle, it was the first time soldiers had used chlorine gas as a battlefield
Chemical warfare was very dangerous and caused many deaths in WW1. There were three different types of gases used in battle mustard, chlorine, and tear gas which was the least deadly. Western nations had a treaty against poisonous weapons but the british broke the treaty when they deployed tear gas on german soldiers. Soon after German soldiers struck back with chlorine gas, which was very deadly if exposed to lungs or eyes. The french allies did not expect nor know how to prepare for a gas attacks.
Analysis. In the discussion, the guest speaker mentions that the German army conquered and occupied countries leading to Russia. Without a choice, Endel Keller was drafted in the German army fighting against Russian troops. After World War 2, Joseph Stalin ordered the secret police to capture and imprison anyone who opposed war efforts such as Germans soldiers, politician, espionage individuals, etc. The guest speaker explained that people were imprisoned for long period and the secret police did not disclose information for the reasons of incarceration to the public.
Dr. Fernando Garson’s interview with Mike Anderson and Mark Myers points out several similarities as well as differences. Similarly, Mike and Mark both shared an awareness of socioeconomically and environmental conditions. Mike was raised in an integrated neighborhood where he had Caucasian friends, and Mark was raised by a single parent. Mark’s family was poor unlike Mike’s family who was a middle-class family with strong family bonds. Nevertheless, Mike’s family was considered middle-class; he was not exempt from the black man’s experience.
The standards he put forward in the book framed the premise for cutting edge electrical hypothesis. In 1752 he sent a record of his analysis to the Royal Society of researchers in London and to French researchers. The outside researchers were so inspired with his work that he was chosen a kindred of the Royal Society in 1756 and granted its Copley Medal. In 1773 he was chosen one of the eight remote partners of the Royal Academy of Science in
Chemical weapons are weapons that are used to induce mass destruction to many victims leaving them in a state of agony often resulting in death. Gas masks are used to provide some protection for the chemicals. Next, the destruction of the chemical weapon was very vast as can be seen through the death and the environmental changes. Chemical weapons may be any toxic chemical that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or sensory irritation through its chemical action. In Remarque’s
He was going to need to do an oral exam, to prove his knowledge and abilities. During his time, it never occurred to him that he should be loading up on chemistry information. He had to rely on the information he had gotten from his chemistry book. He was able to pass the test by answering one question, Chromium. He was able to fool the Nazis another day, which to him, felt like revenge.
Why would people choose to act with such carelessness while millions of people were fighting to stay alive. Again, he asks “Why were there so few? Why was there a greater effort to save SS murderers after the war than to save their victims during the war? It has been suggested, and it was documented, that the Wehrmacht could not have conducted its invasion of France without oil obtained from America sources. How is one to explain their indifference?”
The Germans saw the potential of chemical weapons and it was the Germans who began working on lethal forms of chemical weapons, the chlorine gas weapon, which was chlorine placed into specially designed cylinder that the German Army to used to discharge a dense cloud of Chlorine which would settle into enemy trenches. It was this development of chlorine weapon and the horror’s it produced that prompted the British and the French to develop protection against the chemical weapons. Once the British was able to
Innovation is vital for success in a time of war. In the Great War, countries like Germany were constantly developing and progressing their weaponry and warfare, making it necessary for countries like Canada to do the same. For example, in 1915 near Ypres, the first triumphant chemical weapon attack occurred. With the success of German chlorine gas attacks, Allied countries, such as Canada, decided it necessary to retaliate with the same weaponry. Alongside the creation of poisonous gases, emerged the invention of the gas mask in order to protect soldiers from the attacks.
The Legacy of Chemical Warfare Before World War I, chemical warfare was relatively unheard of and looked upon as taboo when using it in war or combat. It was not until the attack of the Germans did soldiers become aware of the deadly effects of chemical weapons such as Mustard gas and Phosgene gas. After the Germans, the French began to develop chemical weapons, then leading to the whole world becoming involved in this new type of warfare. But it was not the short term effects that were so future altering, it would be the long term effects. Warfare sciences began to change instantly as there was a new focus on chemical weapons, leading to world changing weapons such as nuclear bombs.
Einstein Girls I Interview someone whose first child is presently under two years of age and is working full-time with the child in daycare. I interviewed a Mother who goes to school full time. She always imagined parenthood would be amazing but she didn't know there would be so many challenges. At first it first the decision to put her child in daycare was hard because she didn't want to go there till they were older, but she worked in the school so she felt comfortable with the directors and teachers. She usually agrees with her husband but at times they have disagreements.
