The Secret Service has been around for many decades working in full-force. The Secret Service is most known for protecting the president and other high ranking government officials, but this is not the only thing the secret service does. The main purposes of the Secret Service is to not only protect the President and other important people but also to secure national infrastructures and keep safe the financial systems of the United States. As stated before the Secret Service is most known for protecting the president, but again, this is only a fraction of their duties. The secret service was originally founded on July 5, 1865. Despite it being founded immediately after the his death the secret service was made for a different reason. It was originally created for suppressing counterfeit. During 1865, after the civil war, there was an estimated one third of all currency in circulation that was counterfeit. This caused many problems for the economic system in the United States, thus the Secret Service was made. Since then, the responsibilities of the Secret Service have shifted from counterfeit based purposes to securing national infrastructures, and to safeguard the financial systems of the United States. They have many duties inside these categories, such as; Prevent computer-based crimes, safeguard cyber banking and finance, treasury checks, bonds, prevent credit card fraud, prevent computer fraud, and prevent identity fraud. Recently in U.S. history there has been in increase in the quantity and sophistication of the amount of cyber crimes against US infrastructures. The secret service does a lot to put an end to these types of attacks. They make sure their agents are highly trained in computer forensics. Computer forensics are important to secret service agents because it is used to find any evidence for crimes that are stored digitally. To do this they created ECSAP, (Electronic Crimes Special Agent Program) what they do is train agents in network intrusion.
