Seedfolks by Paul Fleshman highlights issues of race, which voluntarily, or not, causes us to treat others differently in a community. Amir encompasses the struggles which one faces in a rural community and the predetermined biases which form against others as an immigrant. The racial biases Amir is a target of, and the stereotypes he practices influence his racial opinions. An example of this is found in the text when it states, “He was young and black. He looked pretty dangerous (61)”. Amir is reiterating the fact that people who look differently from him, are individuals who he and the community regard with hesitance.
