Selena Quintanilla-Perez, was a talented Mexican-American singer who was on the top of her career when it was cut-short by an untimely death. The movie started showing Selena the child, whose talent in singing was discovered by the father himself in the Texas setting. That became the starting event in the story. Selena became the soloist in the band named “Selena y Los Dinos”. The succeeding events are that of the family’s struggle to pursue the goal or the dream of making it in the music industry.
The Mirabal sisters were revolutionaries who opposed the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo. During the revolution, they were given the code name “Las Mariposas”, or “the butterflies”. The term “mariposa” suits each sister in a different way. Patria, Dedé, Minerva, and Mate Mirabal each have their one reason to be compared to a butterfly. The nickname “mariposa” shows who the Mirabal sisters are; they transformed from domestic, innocent mothers and wives into brave, defiant martyrs for national freedom.
Final Paper I think in my opinion that Selena y Los Dinos which meant (Selena and the Guys) they were one of the best music groups to hit the United States and Mexico. Selena y Los Dinos was a family band that the dad put the band together with all his children. Abraham Quintanilla Jr. the father started the band in the year of 1980's. Selena's father opened up a Mexican restaurant on Jackson, Texas for his children band to perform. Then they started off playing any where they could play to get their faces out in the world.

In the story, it says that she struggled with her identity, “she gets up every day being María Yagual and she wants to be Mercedes Pozo” (83). Mery wanted to identify as less Indian because that’s what she believed was best. Mery is the protagonist and her identity is the principal conflict.

She became very interested in the history behind it. Until one day, Uncle Alberto her fathers friend who is a tour guide took her to visit the Escorial to learn about the history behind it.
The Story of the Vargas Family “Rosa Vargas’ kids are too many and too much. It’s not her fault, you know, except she is their mother and only one against so many” (Cisneros 29). In the novel The House on Mango Street, the author, Sandra Cisneros, touches on the many negative consequences of a single, impoverished mother raising an overwhelming amount of children. Poverty, discrimination, parental and neighborly responsibility, and respect are all issues and social forces that act upon the family; their presence or lack thereof cause several grisly occurrences to take place. Poverty was almost like a curse given to Rosa Vargas by her husband, who “left without even leaving a dollar for bologna or a note explaining how come” (29).

[Minerva] Mirabal apparently rejected his advances by slapping him...
Selena Gomez is a mix former of a disney star of t.v. shows, movies and music. She was born July 22, 1992 in Grand Prairie, Texas (Biography.com.) Selena is a great model for every child and teenager. She inspires everyone in their own ways. Selena is a good role model for us and for our generation.
The quote above I believe sums up the issues raised on artist Alma Lopez re-adaption of La Virgen. Lopez addresses the patriarchal issues embedded in Catholicism and challenges these ideals through art in order to create space for women who do not fit the patriarchy ideal of La Virgen. She indicates that women are constantly being sexualized, oppressed, and marginalized due to the sexist mentality in the Catholic church. Lopez discusses how men view our body as ugly because of the hegemonic ideals of how women are supposed to be portrayed. She even states how men objectify women as a sexual object or saint.
What makes the reader continue to read? I asked myself this question a number of times as I read what appears to be an outwardly vanilla story, The Sisters. This story begins with a death, something rather common place, though often used as a device to catalyze story arcs. However, what follows is not particularly out of the ordinary. The story follows a family as they talk about this deceased reverend, and we seem to get our perspective from the young boy who appears to be a protagonist of sorts, though he plays a rather passive role in the story.

Well in Bend It Like Beckham by Gurinder Chadha, Jess had a goal that she knew was close to impossible to achieve. With all the obstacles in the way, and one being her mother she knew it was going to be a tough fight since her mother had other plans besides her dreams of becoming a professional soccer player. Jess was capable of many things but she had to chose from the two things that was most important to her. Her dreams or her parents wishes.
Reyna Ramirez-Arellano is also a complex character with multiple motivations, including the desire to do her part in helping Jason save the world and the desire to become a better leader of the Roman camp, Camp Jupiter. She didn 't care about being the person who saved the world. Instead, she just wanted to make sure the job was done. Over the course of the passage, Reyna develops as a character who becomes more understanding of those around her, especially Nico di Angelo. Reyna begins to understand what Nico had been doing and his sacrifice despite all of the bad experiences he has had.
Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a Colombian born writer who has been known for his journalistic style of writing in his many pieces of work. An example of this style of writing can be seen in the novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold set in the 1950s. Marquez was considered to be a conservative person, upholding many Spanish traditions and incorporating these traditions into his novels. One of the traditions would be how the role of women is played in society. Marquez uses the of conventional ‘ideal’ women and the unconventional women that fall out of the social norm and embodies them into characters in the novel into a patriarchal society.
