self confidence is the most central theme in the three of the novels I have chosen, it helps the characters deal with difficult situations. The novels I have chosen are “Come Again in The Spring” where Old Hark has the confident to face death and try to negotiate him. “The Quiet Knight” Where Tony lies to his father about going to a basketball practice but he goes somewhere else. “The Chrysalids” where David accepts deviants, but his society despises them.

The most central theme in "Come Again in the Spring" is self confidence, when Old Hark accepted death's challenge." If I can ask you a question about something that happened in your life and you can't remember, then you must come with me." death said. "Agreed." Old Hark replied(Kennedy,127).
