Throughout the course of my time in high school, there were times when I did not give a class or an assignment my best effort, or others when I would absorb information only to regurgitate it when test time came around. I was always able to determine when I sold myself short because of a nagging feeling of guilt that would sweep over me once I had made the decision to not go all out. This feeling of guilt was my conscience attempting to warn me about my future endeavors, where I would be required to do more than simply recall information from a lecture or scarcely meet the requirements given by the instructor if I wished to succeed. I was spending too long studying for one class when there were other courses that needed my attention. Not to mention additional aspects of college such as establishing a social life, participating in student organizations, and finding time to relax. I eventually learned of a resource on campus called the Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center (A-LEC) that offers various classes on important skills needed in college. These classes include note-taking, textbook reading, and time-management. Moreover, the A-LEC is also home to a writing enhancement center, peer tutoring, and academic counseling. As a result, I decided it would be well-worth the time to attend a time-management workshop to gather useful tips for my course load. During the seminar, I learned about the utilization of a daily and weekly planner as well as tools like “semester at a glance” which is used to save important dates for the semester from syllabi for all classes. By attending and later implementing the skills presented at the workshop, I was better able to claim my education by devoting appropriate time for studying, socializing, and
