Essay In the book “The Hunger Games” there are many themes throughout the book. The most prominent of these is the theme of Self Sacrifice may be necessary to save loved ones. This theme comes up 4 times throughout the book and it fits in all of the scenes. The First of these scenes is the scene where Katniss volunteers for her sister. In the beginning of the book at the reaping Katniss’ sisters name is called then Katniss volunteers to save her sister. This is because Katniss couldn’t live without her sister Prim so she sacrifices herself for her. This means that Katniss sacrificed herself to save her sister's life which states that she loves her. Katniss also sacrifices herself in the middle of the book by blowing up the careers supplies. In the middle of the book the people trained for the games have a huge pyramid of supplies and Katniss and Rue plan on destroying it. So while Rue gets the careers attention, Katniss has to destroy the supplies. She does this by shooting a bag of apples so they fall out and blow up all of the supplies with the land mines surrounding the pyramid.
