If you were to ask me a year ago what the purpose of a resident assistant is, I probably would have said “to be the parent of the dorm.” While in many ways this statement is true, I know now that an RA's role extends deeper than the statement portrays. My second year of living on campus has allowed me to observe a few of the overlooked duties of an RA such as updating residents on resources through bulletin boards and maintaining discipline by enforcing quiet hours. Summarizing just a few of my observations, I can confidentially say that an RA's responsibility as a "parent" includes maintaining good order in the residence hall, maintaining a positive living environment, and promoting academic, personal and social growth among students. Resident
Applying to be a resident assistant is one of the best and most rewarding decisions that I made in college. Without my experiences in Residence Life, my college experience would not have been as rich as fulfilling. I was a freshmen women’s RA for my first two years as an RA and I always look back fondly over that time. Although there was definitely a lot of struggles and conflicts that occurred in my freshmen modules, that’s really where my heart is. Over my past three years as an RA, I have always been interested in hearing about and learning about the experiences of other freshmen women RAs.
I am interested in the University of North Dakota because I love the state. I have family and friends in the state and my fiancée and I are considering moving to North Dakota in the future. North Dakota is becoming more of a place for opportunity and I would love to jump on the bandwagon. I have attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay since September of 2012.
Residential Support Workers: Their Importance in Health Service Delivery Residential support workers constitute a workforce that plays a vital role in the quality, care, and health delivery of millions of people across the globe. They effectively represent those who do the most essential job functions when it comes to human service organizations, especially among developmentally differently-abled population, individuals with learning difficulties, day treatment programs, nursing homes, as well as state institutions. Yet, their recognition remains largely muted; their pay remains stagnant; and they often suffer from stigma due to the fact that the problem of disability and individuals with disability have not received the type of respect and attention that they ought to have had. At some point in their lives, every individual needs assistance and care regardless of how rich, educated, powerful, and healthy one may be.
Picture it: the friendly resident assistant helping her resident when she has a tough problem. Maybe the resident is locked out of her dorm, or is having roommate struggles, or even just has general stress with school work. I would like to be that resident assistant helping that girl, and I feel that I could fill this potential position. Working as a Resident Assistant has many benefits and potential positive outcomes. Some of these include the ability to meet new people as well as getting to know them better, being a mentor to residents, and learning from the people you are mentoring or meeting.
Eldercare and Eating Safely The National Institute of Health reports that nearly 48 million Americans get sick each year from eating contaminated food. The illness is seldom fatal, but seniors are not only at greater risk of becoming ill from contaminated foods, but they are at greater risk of severe complications. The two best-known causes of the illnesses are the E.coli and salmonella bacteria. One of the reasons seniors are at greater risk for food poisoning is that their stomachs do not produce as much stomach acid as they did when they were younger.
I have always wanted to work with the elderly population because they are individuals who have witnessed history that we read in our textbooks today. I always believe that I have an old soul and that I was born in the wrong generation. I have always been fascinated with the years the 1940s through the 1960s. The genres that we listen to today were just being born during that time. There is also the literary works of some of the greatest poets such as Langston Hughes.
Transitioning from the paediatric to adult care involves a holistic multifaceted, active process that encompasses the health requirements of the young person and transcends beyond specific health condition needs to include the broader context of family, relationships, education, work and social care.1 It is defined as a purposeful, planned process that addresses the medical, psychosocial and educational/vocational needs of adolescents and young people with chronic physical and medical conditions as they move from child-centered to adult oriented health care systems.2 The chronicity of the medical conditions implies that the disease conditions occur more or less throughout life. The children would most likely have then developed a psycho-social
Description: In week 7 we had visited Wesburn Manor, the Long-term Care (Clinical Placement) setting. It was our first time there, therefore as a group, we oriented the place. At this time, we went to each nursing station on each floor and introduced ourselves from the organization we were from and how we will be providing patient care to the clients in this setting. We were educated by our clinical instructor on the different access codes in the building, the policies and guidelines, our assigned floor and the appointed personal support worker. Our role of professionalism as a nursing student was represented as we came prepared and greeted each healthcare and staff member.
I am Philip Devlin, age 16, and I have only been to one funeral, my Aunt Frances. Every year I’d see her as many times as you can count on your hand. Frances lived in a nursing home, the nursing home was in Framingham, one of the neighboring towns to Wellesley, where I live. Framingham a 5 minute drive from my home. I regret not seeing her more, I regret not caring enough for her, I regret not going to the movies and sharing a buttery popcorn with her.
