I chose to write about the San Antonio sexual scandal committed by Staff Sergeant Luis Walker in 2011. I decided to write about this one because this one stood out to me the most, it hit and connected some emotions of mine and my opinion on this particular case is very strong. Staff Sgt. While serving his time Walker at Fort Leavenworth he committed suicide in 2014 just two years after being convicted. My opinion on this is clear. I agree with his punishment because he not only physically assaulted her but she “suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder” (New York Times). She has to carry that tragic memory and be traumatized for the rest of her life. She also has to deal with her disorder and try to carry on a normal life while looking over her shoulder to make sure nothing like that will ever happen again. No one should have to live like that, it is not healthy and makes trying to have a family extremely hard because of the trust factor. I also hate that she had to wait until she was out of the air force to reveal the crime that was committed because she was scared, or that no one else would come forward until she did. The fact that he had them terrified to come forward is awful. Some of the women that finally came clean were cases from 2009, they waited until 2011
