All most Sergio Leone’s films from his Spaghetti Westerns like Once Upon a Time in the West, to the modern day films like Once Upon a Time in the West to Once Upon a Time in America have a sense of extremism. One could say Once Upon a Time in the West helped launch the trend of extremism, but films like A Clockwork Orange, Deep Throat pushed the beyond of how far a director can go (Which these films are super extreme!). I feel that the film violence adds to the film's commentary of the latent element in the genre.
