As Ted Bundy once said, “The ultimate possession was, in fact, the taking of the life. And then … the physical possession of the remains”. Now some serial killers never explain why they did what they did but that’s the fun of it. Trying to decipher why people feel the urge to kill is what makes most people become fascinated about serial killers in the first place. Something that has always made people curious was trying to find out what pushed serial killers to the point of murder. However, not many people have heard about Dr. Harold Shipman, who is best known as the “doctor of death”. Quite often, by asking why, more evidence is given and in some cases, it can be determined that there was a wrongful outcome of the trial. To summarize this paper in a few sentences, Shipman killed between 215 to 300 people. He never explained why he killed all of those people but there are many past experiences that could be possible reasons as to why he did. He was sentenced to 15 counts of life and was given four additional years for forging Mrs. Grundy’s will. And finally, he spent four years in two separate prisons before supposedly hanging himself in his cell.
