Throughout human history, serial killers have always been present in society. They linger in the back where no one looks; however, once caught, societies’ light shines upon them causing them to be blinded. People find serial killers to be extremely interesting, but can never understand them no matter how hard they try. They believe all them to be how exactly how they are conveyed in movies. Most serial killers are nowhere near what they are in the movies (Bonn, 2014). People have a lack of understanding of why these monstrous people became heart deprived sadists. His method of killing all his victims was over dosage of several drugs. Many of his victims were not even on death row; as a matter of fact, some of them were close to being released back to the world. Cullen would still murder these people even though they were not suffering anymore. It has been revealed that Cullen has attempted to commit suicide up to twenty times during his childhood. He would create chemistry kits and try to drink the toxins he would create. Therefore, it can be inferred he had no ambition to go on with his life. Components that may have wanted Cullen to commit suicide in the first place could be how he has seven other siblings and his father died when he was at an early age. If a person has seven other siblings in their family, it can be quite difficult for a parent to give all their children equal and adequate attention. Cullen could have felt neglected and may have resulted in him sinking into a depression. Later in his horrendous life, Cullen decided to go off and join the navy and it was revealed that he was mentally unstable; however, his mental instability did not stop him in seeking his education he needed for nursing. He thought the health facility he worked at were treating his patients like a bunch of animals. Beatrice Yorker, who is a forensic nurse and believed Cullen killed his patients because he liked to have power and control over them. It brought him immense pleasure to know he held the lives of his patients in monstrous hands. Cullen shares that characteristic among other serial killers. He feels the most powerful when life and death of an individual stand right in front of him. Even though Cullen knows the wrongness of the crimes he committed, he believed all the killings he did was the correct answer for the situation his patients were in. When asked about his general crime committing, he would tell people other people were at fault, not himself. He believed that the hospitals he worked at should have taken notice of his misdeeds and reported him, but they did not. He even went as far as to say how his supervisors saw some of the mistakes he made but did not take any note of it.
