The excerpt from the story “The Things they Carried” by Tim O’Brien is a story of Triumph, and yet in such a melancholy way. I am glad that Lieutenant Cross was able to overcome his daydreaming and lead his men, yet at what cost. The lot of all the men outlined in his platoon seems a grim one. O’Brien sets the story in Vietnam, though this is not explicitly mentioned, the characters surroundings, the equipment they and their enemies possess, and the names of the cities make this evident. The setting is absolutely pertinent to the story.
In the Elizabethan life, this act by Hamlet who is supposed to become the new king as he is next in line since his father had been murdered, would pass over and no one would believe that he did it without any physical proof of him doing it. It could just be sign of jealousy from king Claudius and would backfire on him if he were to try and presume legal action for the death of Polonius. The motivation of King Claudius is to try and get Hamlet sent away so he can cover up the fact that he had murdered his own brother so he could marry his wife. It is really perturbing that when suddenly when driving into a certain neighborhood, or street, and in a specific time of night, you see various women slowly starting to appear walking in the night. While children wonder why those women are out so late, and parents try unsuccessfully to distract them from the situation, no one truly dares to change anything. Most just simple choose to look away, not aware of the horrors these people face. The sole idea of one’s own family members in this industry, would make anyone’s skin crawl. Sex trafficking has stained society’s history, present, and sadly, it’s future.

Sex trafficking is a major problem today all around the world. Many people do not understand where the problem is coming from, but it starts when you are little and continuously gets worse (Thistle Farms). Many women that are prostitutes have endured some kind of trauma to lead them to believe that they are not worthy (Thistle Farms). If people do not grow up in a stable environment with love and affection they may never feel like they are good enough and then resort to pimps to make them feel needed. This results in poverty because the woman will never be able to find a real job and the cycle will continue to the next generation feeling unloved and not worthy.
Sex Trafficking is a form of modern day slavery that exists throughout the United States and globally. It is one of the biggest lies in society (Farley et., 2014). The Vanderbilt Law Review indicates that the majority of prostitutes do not enter the prostitution lifestyle on their own free will choice, but instead becomes a prostitute due to a variety of vulnerabilities that both pimps and traffickers exploit. This explains why young women get blindsided and think they are becoming a prostitute when in reality they are a sex trafficking victim (Elrod 2015).
