are all human. What ties us all together? Our biology. Our bodies. Our physiologies. Yet, our bodies are a constant factor when being prejudice or even discriminating against someone. If they are male or female, White or Black- it all determines the type of treatment a racist and sexist society gives them. Racism, the social disease that clouds judgement and limits the potential of entire races, has an equally damaging twin: a social disease that clouds judgement and limits the potential of both genders equally. Although racism and sexism have legally been “outlawed” with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, society still faces the harsh implications. Racism impacts the lives of some races, usually minorities, and typically creates an impossible path to tread in their careers and even in their every-day lives. Sexism coincidentally affects the lives of everyone. Although women have been the main victims of sexist remarks, actions, and even laws, men are also affected by gender roles. Yet, even though racism and sexism change a different amount of lives, not in the good way, they are changed for the very same reason. For example, they might see someone of Asian descent, and the employer declines them, due to his or her particular hatred towards Asians. This process happens daily in a society where many people are racist and sexist. The potential that this process wastes should almost be a crime. All of the people that are denied a position based on the color of their skin or their gender are being let down because of the genes they were born with. They are being denied the basic right to practice the career of their liking, even the career that they studied for various years and paid a massive educational debt for. The wasted talent that is thrown away every day should be appreciated and should be turned into a thriving career or innovation, but instead is forced to be used in a different career. A racist and sexist society is sadly accustomed to choosing the “correct” and “traditional” careers for every gender and every race. The status quo is limiting the potential for innovation, creativity, and educational breakthroughs. Even when a person of color or a woman is not taken for granted and allowed to reach their career goals, they experienced a much more difficult path that a non-oppressed person
