Historically, the Church and state overlapped, therefore, society became submerged with religious centered views. The Bible framed the societal roles and the relationship of women and men. The theme of sexism is prevalent throughout the testament of Adam and Eve. Throughout Genesis, there have been instances of gender discrimination it has also set a precedent for inequality towards women. The testament of Adam and Eve reinstate the belief of a patriarchal society. This analysis will consider the aspects of sexism throughout Genesis by providing examples from the story of Adam and Eve. The story of Adam and Eve was mentioned shortly after the creation of earth and heaven. Moreover, following in chronological order, Adam was created before Eve. This instance emphasized the importance of a male since they were made before women, resulting in a male dominant society. By creating Adam first, it illustrated that Eve was made as a last minute thought, she was not given equal attention. Eve was made primarily to serve as a buffer between Adam and his boredom. Eve was not created for the universe as Adam was, he was perfect since he was the mold for all mankind. Whereas Eve was complementary to Adam stating that women do not offer much to society.
