In the text “Why Kids Sext” by Hannah Rosin goes into detail why kids sext, what these kids are doing is wrong because it invades privacy, on how social media has a big part, harm that is being done by this, and the proper way to deal with this without making laws to lock kids up for making mistakes. This text was based on a school that had a huge problem with sexting. Photos of girls in this school were being posted on a porn site and on social media. When the parents found out there daughters were on this site they were very disappointed and wanted this shut down as soon as possible. These were smart straight A students that made a simple mistake.
In the essay, ‘'Tweens: Ten Going on Sixteen” written by Kay Hymowitz, she explains that tweens are growing up to fast. A child that is identified by the word tween is between the ages of eight and twelve. These children were engaging in all kinds of inappropriate activities, As Kay Hymowitz explains, “Tweens have even given new connotations to the word “playground”: one fifth-grade teacher from southwestern Ohio told me of two youngsters discovered in the bushes during recess.” Tweens at that point in time were getting into activities that mainly adults would take part in. Kay also said she believes that the children to act in this way because of absent parents and sexualized media, which are both true, however, absent parents may be more of a reason because children tend to grow up faster than children whose parents are present.
According to www.kidguard.com The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC-USA) reports “15 percent of children between ages 10 and 17 have been contacted via the internet for sexual intent.” With these numbers, this shows that kids having unlimited access to the internet can or will lead to them being involved in an illegal sexual activity.
In teens, knowing the sex life of peers around you is exciting. The problem lies in how we overexaggerate the sex lives of others. A friend could say they have had sex with a different girl every few weeks yet our minds may associate the person as a “man whore” and start to ask ourselves why the person gets so much attention as compared to oneself. It is the over exaggeration and comparison that makes a friendly discussion of sex so toxic. Hirsch explains the discussion of sex among youth adults exclaiming, “Most students have an exaggerated sense of how much sex others are having… There’s a competitive quality among some peer groups about each member’s sexual standing, where groups seek to advance their own status, but also compete with one another about who is, by some collectively agreed-upon metric, winning” (Hirsch).

This also shows that your reputation can be ruined in days, hours, minutes, and probably even seconds. William, It is sad to see such a thing happen to a young little girl. I think people believe sexting does not hurt someone because he or she is not causing physical harm to the other person. However, sexting cause severe psychological harm to the victim, especially if it happen to young adults. I considered sexting as a mental illness since the abusers is not in their right mind distributing sensitive images and being a naïve, immature bully. On the other hand the victim will suffer from mental anguish of embarrassment, depression, shame, and possibly guilt letting the other person take the pictures.
