During the Penn State child rape scandal, Jerry Sandusky had been accused of having sexual relations by force with athletes at the college. Further documentation shows that Sandusky had not only one sexual relations with a student; but with “10 boys in a period of 15 years. “(Huffington Post) The classification of crimes that Jerry Sandusky committed is legally defined as “mala in se.” During the first apparent observation of abuse occurring at the school, Michael McQueary, a former assistant coach for Penn State, reported the descry to Joe Paterno; whom then reported the accusation to school officials.
Jerry Sandusky was an assistant football coach at Penn State University from 1969 until his retirement in 1999. He was well respected and even founded a charity organization for disadvantaged youth. After his retirement, he was still frequently on campus due to his status as an esteemed coach and professor emeritus. During his 30 year tenure at Penn State and thereafter in his retirement, Sandusky was involved in several incidents of lascivious behavior with minors.
20-year old , Chelsea Steiniger accused Mark Weiner, a Caucasian 52-year old male, of kidnapping and sexually assaulting her back in 2012. Wiener had seen Chelsea walking home through a convenience store’s parking lot after her boyfriend had kicked her out of his house and upon seeing her, Weiner drove Chelsea to her mother’s house. She was texting her boyfriend demeaning texts posing as her kidnapper, Mark. Her boyfriend had called the police when he received the demeaning text messages Chelsea had sent him.
As a journalist, Peterson’s job is to report the facts, not give his unsolicited opinion on the situation. This is also dangerous because, not only is he shaming the victim’s personal choice to remain silent but he is also forcing his own beliefs on readers who are simply trying to become more familiar with the scandal. By reading about his personal opinions within the article, Peterson demonstrates a lack of empathy for anyone who has dealt with sexual abuse and as a result, readers may find that his argument is unable to sound
The Brock Turner Rape Case A case fueled with controversy and rage from the public, the Brock Turner case begins on a Saturday in January of 2015, with two Swedish college students on a bike ride by the Kappa Alpha Fraternity House, and according to a case summary by "Sports Illustrated", those two college students found Brock Turner, a Stanford Swimmer sexually assaulting a half naked, un-named 22 year old. Turner then attempted to flee the scene, and as the case summary states, the two Swedish students, Carl-Fredrik Arndt and Peter Jonsson, "chased him down and tackled him" (Lombardo, 2016). The police then showed up and arrested Turner, specifically, the Campus police. The un-named woman was then taken to the hospital, eventually regaining
Leniency in the Courtroom Rape is considered a hateful crime and can cause the offender to be sentenced to an average of five to fifteen years (Berman). According to Sara J. Berman, professor at Concord Law School, “rape is nonconsensual sexual intercourse; it is often committed through force, threats, or fear” (Berman). Sexual assault and harassment are widespread issues that affect people of all ages and sexes. It is not to be taken lightly but in recent cases, it has been. In a very recent case, college student Brock Turner was convicted of three felony counts of sexual abuse.
When talking about Bill Cosby and him allegedly raping over 50 women, it is going to take time to get to the bottom of this trial. I feel as though if the women had been rape they should have said something back when it first happened. This has been untried and unpunished fro fifty years; why would anyone take the time out to try and put him in jail all these years later? I feel as though some of those women are lying because if the rape was that serious, they would have spoken up when it first happened. If I were to get raped, I would go to the police right after it happened and I would put the man that did it away fast so he wouldn't hurt anyone else again.
The New York Post article targets the victims and continues to idolize Cosby, while the Huffington Post source justifies the victims, and gives reasoning for why Cosby may be an alleged rapist. For instance, the liberal article argues, “ Yes there is a lack of evidence, however, that doesn’t mean there isn’t any evidence. Dozens of women can testify. (Huffington Post 1). This statement details, that despite a lack of evidence, there is no reason that the incident never occurred because plenty of women filed lawsuits against Cosby.
His lawyer told him that was the thing for him to do especially with having an all-white jury. He spent five years and two months in prison and it wasn’t until 2012 that his accuser renounced her story. This may have gotten him of jail, but he had already lost half of his life to a crime he didn’t commit. Luckily during prison, the twice his age men never asked what he did. In the usually case people that are locked up for any sexual charge are in some form are sexually assaulted.
Companies would ignore the women’s compliments of them being sexually abused and receiving sexual harassment. Its disappointing because this companies where the biggest cleaning companies and still had problems resolving these types of problems. I think it’s unfair because if this same problem happened inside an office or in a higher position, the company would have taken an immediate response to this problem and probably terminated the abuser in that same time. I think these companies de-value women’s work, because they see it as a simple task that they don’t need a degree or certificate to do it. Most of these women are undocumented and most of them don’t know their rights, which companies take advantage of
As Donald Trump was the one who inspired the two men to attack the homeless man, many people chose to blame him for what they did. Even though, Donald Trump had said his followers are just passionate for this country, he did not force or threat the two men to beat and urinate the homeless man. The two men chose to do it for no good reason, but, yet people accuse Donald Trump for this problem. The two men should be ones blame for their own action since they found nothing but, pleasure leaving bruises and broken bones to a innocent homeless Latino man. They should be the ones to blame from their own fighting and admitting that it was their fault.
Feminists will have us trust that behind the assault of a woman, there is more injury and individual outcomes than behind a “false assault allegation” of a man, but is it accurate to say that this is reality? Should there be some instance of deterrent discipline for erroneously blaming some individual for assault, or should it just be addressed with a slap on the wrist? Alternately, should the police be fulfilled by presuming that they have no verification of there being an assault, end the case and not spend police assets on researching further to check whether the allegation was false? When a woman files a false rape accusation against a man, where there was no rape she should be subject to punishment. It seems fitting that the woman making
This thought totally wrong and hurtful because it will makes the victims difficult to speak out and more likely to blame themselves. The examples of sexual abuse are rough sexual activity, rape and forcible sodomy either oral or anal sex. Sexual harassment may be verbal, non
It should also be noted that even though it is not everyone that will hit a woman, sexually harass her or even rape; we are all complicit if we turn a blind eye or dismiss anyone of these incidents as a fluke. As we have noted recently in the scandal surrounding Harvey Weinstein (a Hollywood media giant); many people have now come forward saying they were victims of his or that they were in some form aware of what was going on but they kept quiet because of fear. This only goes to show the depth of the issue and how we as society should put more effort into making sure that the victims of such violent acts never have to question whether they will receive support or not or if they will find justice. (-- removed HTML --) (-- removed HTML --) Violence against women is a potential problem in any woman's life as long as the law and society take a lackadaisical approach to it.
Employers are just as guilty as their employees when dealing with sexual harassment. Employers equally must be prosecuted. One question if there are policies and or programs in force that can prevent sexual harassment and assault in the workplace. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible to enforce the workplace laws. One of the outlined laws states, “It is unlawful to harass a person that could be an applicant, employee, or student because of that person’s sex.
