Liz struggles to feel accepted and happy in her school because many people tease her for having two mothers. Because of her two mothers, people believe that being raised by two lesbians will result in Liz being the same. Being surrounded by homophobic peers can extremely affect an adolescent young girl, and it could result in severe mental illnesses being developed like depression or anxiety or maybe even lead to her needing to be pulled out of school to be homeschooled. She could always talk to a teacher, a school counselor or nurse, or her mum’s. There are many adults who would be able to help her and to let her know a few things to make her feel safer. In 2007 In an anonymous survey of 8,000 New Zealand secondary school students conducted by the University of Auckland, 0.9% of those surveyed reported exclusive attraction to the same sex, 3.3% to both sexes and 1.8% to neither. It is also unfair to assume that a child who belongs to a homosexual couple will inherit homosexual tendencies, although the child will be more exposed to things relating to the LGBTQI community, this does not mean the child will be homosexual themselves.
