Lord of Shadows Book Report
Lord of Shadows is a book about a group of young shadowhunters and their journey between the real world, the Shadow world, and the Faerie world. Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn are fighting against their love for eachother because not only is it forbidden, but it’s dangerous for them and for their family. But Emma finds that putting space between her and Julian will be difficult when his family is being attacked by a powerful warlock and his allies. Meanwhile, Downworlders are turning against Shadowhunters producing the Cohort, a group of Shadowhunters threatening to end the existence of Downworlders and to take away the Los Angeles Institute from Julian and his family. Julian Blackthorn and Emma Carstairs. Julian Blackthorn is a teen (around 17 years old) who matured at a very young age. When he was 12, he became responsible for his entire family after his parents died in the Dark War. At the same time, he also took responsibility for the Los Angeles Institute after he recognized that his Uncle Arthur, who was currently in charge, was traumatized by being captured in the faerie world and was not able to deal with the Institute. This however is illegal because Julian wasn’t assigned the job so Julian has had to keep it a secret. He is very strong and is family orientated. Julian is also very protective of the ones he loves and can get jealous easily. Emma Carstairs is also a teen, around the same age as Julian, and is living with the Blackthornes after her parents went missing and found dead on the beach. She and Julian are parabatai which means that they are partners when they fight and the best of friends, but it also means that they can’t fall in love with each other which is what eventually happens. Emma is one of the greatest Shadowhunters in her generation meaning she is very skillful, fast, strong, and brave. She too will do anything for her family, which are basically the Blackthorns. Annabel is meant to testify that she is the one who killed Malcolm, not a member of the Cohort, but the problem is no one believes her. The Cohort are insulting her as she testifies until disaster breaks. The way a Shadowhunter is forced to tell the truth is by holding the Mortal Sword which can harm whoever is holding it if they are lying. Moreover, the sword is a very strong and powerful weapon. Annabel is holding it when a fight breaks out between the Cohort and the rest of the Shadowhunters. Annabel panics and raises the sword in front of her as a weapon. Consequently, Annabel kills the Inquisitor (like the President) along with a few guards and even Livvy Blackthorn, one of her own blood. In the end, she escapes through a window and the Shadowhunters are left in the Hall mourning for those
