“Wait up!” Katrina cried as she ran through the forest. She and her siblings, Eliza and Nate, had gone camping in Algonquin for the summer. When they got there, they went exploring and found a mysterious place called Shady Hollow. It was a clearing by the end of the forest at the edge of the water that no one ever went to. She ran into the clearing after her brother and sister.
“Come on!” called Eliza. “Let’s go climb on the log!”
Katrina ran over to the log that had fallen across the river. She slowly climbed on just like her sister had done before her. “I wonder what temperature the water is,” said Nate.
“Don’t touch the water, Nate!” screamed Eliza.
“Why not?” asked Nate.
“Didn’t you hear the stories? There was once a girl who went swimming …show more content…

She stood up so suddenly that she lost her balance and fell off the log into the water!
“Katrina!” she heard Eliza yelling as she hit the water.
Everything went quiet. She felt the freezing water against her skin. She tried to scream, but no words came out. Suddenly, she felt icy hands wrapping around her throat. She tried to fight them off, but they wouldn’t budge. Then she saw another body; it grabbed the hands that were around her throat. She was saving Katrina! Katrina was pulled towards the surface and looked into the face of her mysterious saviour. It was a girl with long, red hair that flowed behind her. Her skin shimmered in the sunlight, and although they were still in the water, the girl was oddly dry. They locked eyes, and the mysterious girl vanished into thin air. Katrina was drenched, freezing, and, on top of all that, she was scared.
“Katrina! Katrina, can you hear me?” It was the voice of Eliza.
“Y-y-yes,” Katrina sputtered.
“Get out of the water now! Whatever it is, it’s coming back!” yelled Nate.
Katrina quickly swam back to the shore, wondering who that mysterious person could have been. As Katrina climbed onto the dry ground, she could feel hands scraping at her feet trying to get a grip on her. She kicked the hands off and ran to her siblings. “I’m not sure what just happened, but I don’t think I’m ever going to forget this,” said
