What is Shared Humanity? It is characteristics that only humans have and share between themselves. This characteristics can be found in books and short stories and other places. This is what makes us human, characteristics like emotions being able to make a decision and other characteristics. Humans show shared humanity each day when they laugh, cry, or get angry. The concept of Shared Humanity is shown in the novels and short story, How I Live Now, “The Scarlet Ibis” and Hatchet. Two parts of Shared Humanity are shown in Meg Rosoff’s novel “ How I Live Now” Emotions and loss happen when Daisy and Piper arrived at Gateshead barn only to find everybody is dead and Ding is dying because he was left in the farm without food.. “ I guess he'd been left in there with no food for much too long and his eyes were dull but recognized Piper and me and dinged his bell and rubbed his baby horns against Piper as best he could given that he was mostly dead.” ( Chapter 26 Pg,143).
