Should society have the right to view any execution at anytime? In the essay “Executions Should Be Televised” written by Zachary Shemtob and David Lat respectfully claim executions need to be publicly released to all U.S citizens. By using experts in law to give their opinion on the topic try to defend the reasons for their argument. The authors do not provide enough information about the opposition to counter argue an effective debate. Instead, killing criminals on live television will be as humiliating and emotional as putting a pet to sleep. The person dying should have every right to their privacy even if they committed heinous acts that no person should ever do. First, the authors acclaims “Little would change in the death chamber; the faces of witnesses and executioners could be edited out…” The authors make this statement seem that executions are entertainment and not informative news. More importantly the main reason stated is “dramatic difference between reading or hearing of such an event and observing it through image and sound.” Clearly the authors want the readers to know seeing the actual execution is better than reading about it on a website. The authors also state that executions are not going to put on the daily news but a recording for the future. The purpose of airing executions for the crimes put against society brings fear to the blossoming future criminals. That when a person breaks a serious law they will be sentenced to death.
