Between 650 CE and 1750 CE, commerce in the Indian Ocean region flourished. Some significant changes included the technological advancements, specialization of goods, and the empirical control of trade. Although there were many new developments, some continuities of the Indian Ocean region included the types of goods traded, the routes taken to trade those goods, and the familiarization of monsoons. Overall the Indian Ocean region flourished in commerce and trade overtime due to the changes and developments of ideas causing the world to be more globally connected. What made the Indian Ocean commerce possible were the monsoons, alternating winds currents depending on the season.
From 600 AD to 1750 AD, the expansion of trade and commerce on the Indian Ocean was transformed by traders and merchants from peoples such as Persians, Arabs, and Indians. However, there are more changes because of the participation of other cultures and people in the trading system. One significant continuity was the use and emergence of the same trade routes for both exports and imports of goods such as ivory, gold, and iron. A significant change was how the commerce around the Indian Ocean economically flourished. Places like East Africa, the Red Sea, India, and the Persian Gulf were all incorporated into the trade route when the commerce was rapidly developing in the Indian Ocean.
Aboriginals lived in a resource-rich area, and they had a lot to trade. Some of their want to trade was because they needed supplies from other regions, but a large part of it was because they wanted to form good relationships with whoever they were trading with. The Aboriginals exchanged gifts, which created alliances. What did the Aboriginals use as their main form of transportation?
Phoenician merchants were experts in trade. Upon arrival in a certain location, they would see what the people were after, and trade that. Each region had its specialty when it came to trade: Egypt had papyrus and linen, Persia had glass and precious minerals, Iberia had silver, etc. These merchants would act as the channel in which all of these goods would flow. Cross-cultural contacts were made possible by the Phoenicians, and their sphere of influence led to an increased dominance in the southern Mediterranean Sea.
According to TeachTci, the Han controlled salt and silk trade. Not only did they do this but they also traded goods to Egypt through camel, and to Rome by ship through sea routes. These trade routes later became some of the main routes for trading. The Han discovered how to harvest salt in areas that did not contain saltwater.
The Impact of John Green on American Culture “What is the point of being alive if you don’t at least try to do something remarkable?” (John Green). Author John Green holds true to this quote in the way he lives his life through his many achievements. As a young child being bullied and not feeling like enough, he found a way to express his feelings through his writing. Green did not find himself until college after changing majors and spending time with ill kids in a children’s hospital.
Lots might consider themselves an American, but although they may live in America that doesn’t really make them an American. To be a true American it takes more than just being born here or taking a test. Being an American indicates that one has the true American spirit, and keep the American promise that all men and women can have, meaning they can do what they want with their lives but also treat others the right way, and follow good morals. Having the true American spirit does not come easy. “Americans look to more than the next meal; they look to the future, the long term, a better tomorrow”(Hudgins,10).
Norman Rockwell is one of america's most famous painter, he grew in popularity because his painting showed descriptive details about american culture. They were so popular because their meaning were relevant even now. One painting “Saying Grace” caught my eye, it showed the very real problem that America is having with allowing being free to practice their own religion. The picture at first glance is of a mother and child praying in a busy cafe. After taking a deeper look at the photo, you will see disgusted faces all around the cafe looking at the mother and child.
This excerpt of The Namesake describes the apartment that Moushumi and Gogol purchase together. Utilizing vivid imagery, Lahiri illustrates the elegant and high-end one-bedroom apartment with a view that the couple now owns. They purchase knock-off Noguchi lamps to further the facade of their adopted American culture and attempt to appear wealthier than they are, as authentic Noguchi lamps cost thousands of dollars. The apartment, though ornately decorated, predominantly reflects an American culture through its Ikea furnished interior which leaves the couples’ parents both “impressed and puzzled” (228). Furthermore, the parents expected a larger apartment because they assume Moushumi and Gogol will soon have children together and grow their new family.
Historians over the past years have been uncertain who the first Europeans to the Americas were. Evidence has shown that the first Europeans to set foot in the New World were the Vikings led by Leif Erikson, also known as Leif the Lucky. They sailed to the Americas in the year 1000 A.D. They set up camp in the north on the islands above Canada. We know that the Vikings were the first Europeans in the New World as evidenced by written records, oral tradition about the life of Leif the Lucky and archeological findings. There are written records that are excellent primary sources.
The Impact of John Green on American Culture As author John Green once shared, “What is the point of being alive if you don’t at least try to do something remarkable?”. John Green is recognized by many as the “most popular new teen novelist since Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling”. Through the years, Green has written many popular young adult/teen novels, five of them making The New York Times best sellers list.
Many Europeans found new opportunities by crossing the Atlantic to settle in the Americans. Historians estimate that in some areas, 90 percent of native population was wiped out by European disease. At first the settlers forced the Indians to work for them. When rival European nation also began to an interest in the land, small bands of soldiers were sent to these regions to protect the claims. Today, St. Augustine is the oldest permanent settlement found by Europeans in the United States today.
They both used chariots and litters and also boats. They also both have funeral boats, used to carry a dead person to a funeral and then back to a gravestone. A merchant ship was when you take merchandise from one place to another place. Long distance boats were for people that travel long distances and for people that are traveling from one country to another. A pleasure barge was a flat-bottomed slow-moving boat used for leisure.
When a region has to export goods It’s usually involves the things that are not available in their region of importing. The ocean wind have worked perfectly with the Europeans to use, They formed a triangle trade, so then it gets to each area and get what they need to get to. Mostly when they ocean winds is great to ship they use this time for shiping main goods such as food, crops, sugar, cotton, copper, and especially guns. Mostly in the middle of age of exploration regions did not have money to get them food and things they need by shipping they would do a contract with the place that they will export from the contract they say, Like you give me food and I will give you copper, so it’s exactly like a deal
According to iRami (2012) stated that the shipping plays an important role in world trade which is the backbone of the world economy. Recently, without these boats and vessels provide transportation services, many countries will be unable to participate in world trade and will not be as prosperous. From centuries past, the sea has always been important to all country at the world which as an important factor of economic development of every maritime country. The maritime sector contributes significantly to the economic development. Underling this is the fact that 95% of the country international trade is carried in whole or in part by maritime transport.
