In Robert Kurson’s book, “Shadow Divers,” he reveals how a group of divers solve one of the last mysteries of World War II. Captain Bill Nagle owns the Seeker which is a charter boat that people can rent to take them to shipwrecks. Nagle is a world renowned deep sea shipwreck diver, because he pushes the limits on how far and where divers can go. Nagle has explored some of the most dangerous shipwrecks such as the Andrea Doria and Texas Tower. He has also retrieved various souvenirs from wrecks such as china dishes and the boat’s bell, but Nagle has massive respect for the history of sunken watercraft.
The USS Indianapolis was a heavy cruiser of the US Navy, named for the city of Indianapolis, Indiana. The sinking of this ship in 1945 led to the greatest single loss of life at sea. The ship was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine and sinks within minutes in shark-infested waters. The sinking of the USS Indianapolis shows the greatest loss of life at sea, what the survivors had to endure before saving and the prosecution of the captain of the USS. The ship was done with its first mission, delivering the world's first operational atomic bomb to the island of Tinian.
In 1772,one more event occurred which cause trouble between the colonists and great Britain, Lieutenant William Duddington(the ship Gaspee) crew members will board the ship and expropriate(smuggling)packages. The shipowners will lose all there $$ and goods then hurt the merchants they have traded.
Mooring buoys mark its various dive sites. There is also an unmanned reef light nearby. Benwood Wreck This ship sank in 1942, a casualty of World War II. In 1959, a protection zone was designated to protect the remains from further vandalism.
Robert Ballard was known for his work in underwater archeology and discovery of shipwrecks. He joined the army in 1965 and requested to fulfill his obligation in the navy. His request to aiding in the navy allowed Ballard to design small, unmanned submersibles that could be tethered and controlled from a surface ship. Ballard’s works that were contributed in aiding the navy also contributed in searching for his first shipwreck, the Titanic. Robert Ballard was able to contribute his discoveries to America by the exploration of undersea technology, his relationship with the navy in cooperating with Ballard’s explorations, and the use of deep-diving submarines to explore the surface of the ocean and encounter abandoned or destroyed ships of past
Lars Eighner goes into great detail in his essay, “On Dumpster Diving”, when discussing about his experiences living on the streets and the ways of Dumpster diving. He called himself a “scavenger” and even though he would rather live a “comfortable consumer life,” he learned so much from being a scavenger. Eighner begins the chapter with the three principles; what is safe to consume, knowing the Dumpsters, and knowing the answer to the question “Why was this discarded?” He then discusses how to identify good or rotten foods; what will leave the person satisfied or have the person end up with botulism. Eighner also states the benefits of knowing the different locations of dumpsters, like his experience with the Dumpster behind a pizza delivery shop.
There are times in history that are significant for more than one reason and stand out because of the spark they ignite setting off a chain of other events. Of course to ignite something means the conditions are right to be combustible. The sinking of the U.S.S Maine has come to be one of those events which impacted not only the history of the United States but the world. The U.S.S. Maine, its voyage and ultimate annihilation led to the Spanish-American War.
Lars Gustafson 11/4/15 GEOG 304 Research Paper: Shark Finning With an alarming one in four shark species endangered across the globe, we have come to a breaking point where our oceans ecosystems could suffer permanent damage if the practice of shark finning in the oceans off of Eastern Asia continues as shark population’s plummet. According to www.stopsharkfinning.net, tens of millions of sharks are killed every single year just for the fins that are the main ingredient in shark fin soup. Shark fins are harvested to feed the growing demand for shark fin soup that is an Asian delicacy food. When the sharks are finned they are usually thrown back into the water and left to drown slowly.
Equiano described the horrors of a slave ship based on his firsthand experience. He describes what it was like to be thrown onto a ship, the indescribable smell of being crammed on the deck with so many other slaves, and the floggings he and the other slaves received for not eating. The slaves were so tightly packed together the air was dangerous to breath, and many of the slaves became sick and died from it, while others suffocated to death. Men were pushed to the brink of starvation, tried to steal food, and were severely flogged for it. Others tried to jump overboard and drown rather than accept their life of misery.
Ocean City may be a big local beach, but it isn’t the best one around. Virginia Beach is a beautiful place where tons of people come to vacation, live, and work today, and it all started back in 1607. Virginia Beach is a wonderful place, but this beautiful beach didn’t come without bloodshed. The Indian massacre of 1622 happened in the English colony of Virginia. The Powhatan lured the colonists of Jamestown acting like they wanted to sell them items and turned on them a murder them with tools and anything that could be used as weapons (Particularkey).
Surviving the Great Sea Two first person, 16th century narratives share similarities of having observational information, being a reflective essay, and only focusing on one event. But have difference of settings and situations. “La Relacion” written by Cabeza De Vaca is an objective report to his king on the mission to the new continent. While “The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano” by Olaudah Equiano is a narrative written about a 10 year old slave’s subjective experiences aboard the slave ship.

I decided to make this community because I feel people deserve the best living space possible. I will show you the many restaurants, activities, and exercise centers in my neighborhood. I have always enjoyed exploring the world, but the adventure that always sticks out the most was my cruise to the tropical paradise of Bermuda. I have cruised to the Bahamas, as well as spent countless weeks of my lifetime in the Outer Banks. The cruise to Bermuda was only my second time out of the country, leaving from Baltimore, Maryland one Friday afternoon and arriving on the shores of the tropical island on Sunday afternoon. Waking up on a Saturday in the beginning of August and being able to look out the window and seeing water for as far as you can see is a one time thing and an experience like no other. The days spent traveling the open seas, gives you the chance to live life while leaving all of your baggage back on shore.
”The Open Boat” is the most frequently discussed work of American writer Stephen Crane, famous for his naturalistic writing in which human beings have no control on their lives. It is more than a narrative of adventure. In January 1897, the writer was shipwrecked and lost at sea for 30 hours. He and three other men were forced to row to shore on a ten-foot life boat. The short story was written several weeks after the harrowing accident.
