James Brown was born on May 3, 1933 in South Carolina. As a baby, him and his parents lived in a mall wooden shack. At the age four or five, the Brown family moved to Augusta, Georgia, where they lived at one of James aunt house. Susie, Brown 's mother left the family after a heated marriage and moved to New York. Subsequently, Brown began to hang out in the streets hustling. In middle school, he began singing in talent shows. At Augusta 's Lenox Theater in 1944, he won the show after singing "So Long".
