Let 's Get Lost During Leila’s 4,268- mile journey through the US from Louisiana all the way to Canada to see the Northern Lights Leila passes through also every state possible and in some she is lucky enough to meet a friend in need of some company. Mississippi, Kansas, Minnesota, Washington, Canada all the way to Alaska.
Four teens across the country have only one thing in common and that is Leila. She passes through their lives in her old Plymouth Acclaim red interior and exterior color car at the moment they needed someone most. Hudson, Bree, Elliot and Sonia all find a friend in Leila, she completely changes their world for the better. Hudson, picking apart the sound would know exactly what to fix before even popping the hood. He is Lelia 's first stop on her journey, when Leila is in need of an oil change and some new breaks. But Leila does not only leave with her car fixed, she also leaves with a broken heart. Right when Leila steps out of her car Hudson wonders how long the memory of her face will haunt his mind. He described her as “ the kind of girl who could make you think your life was not complete unless she was in it”(Alsaid 2). Hudson offers to show Leila all the hidden “treasures” around town, taking her to the bowling alley and a local island across the river that Hudson and his friend took over. They spend all night on the island with Hudson 's friends snapping open a couple of beers and playing “Drunkball” as Hudson 's stated “It is kind of pointless to come here and not play Drunkball” (Alsaid 45). It was all fun and games until the two ended up spending the night on the island in the woods under the stars, making Hudson miss his big interview the next morning. It was finally time for Leila to discover the truth about herself, she is something of a mystery throughout the story, all she tries to do is help others, which all had something in their heart that needed fixing, we only discover little detail about Leila through the perspective of the other characters until we come the Leila’s story. She starts with the “story of the Northern Lights” her father told her when she was little, which was the only thing she could remember after a car accident where she lost her parents, sister, and all memories of her past except that story. The reader discovers that her journey was in hopes of regaining her memory and finding herself though the lights since that was her one and only memory. On her 4,268-mile journey she discovers the most important truth, the Northern Lights was not what she was looking for sometimes, what you need most is right where you started in Lila 's case that was home, with her aunt and uncle. And maybe the only way for her to find what she was looking for is to get lost
